Won't even know, that will be the dog-walking timeslot. No desire to watch it.

I don't know what the NFL is thinking, I understand wanting to be more contemporary after several years of "older" acts, but it doesn't get any more cheesy or "corporate-y" than the BEP, and they peaked years ago.

At least they won't be marching out someone they have to prop up who doesn't even know where he is like Mic Jagger.

It amazes me that they will play hip hop, hard rock, and pop music during the games but won't put any of these acts on during the half time shows.

Umm, the Black Eyed Peas are doing the halftime show this year. They are the definition of hip hop and pop music right now. And they have two songs that have been used almost ubiquitously at football games the past two years with Boom, Boom, Pow and I Gotta Feeling.

The Black Eyed Peas aren't that bad... they're just not very good Live. But at least they have some good, catchy tunes.

The general public, who are the people who watch the SB and bring the ratings (ie, not the football fans who watch every week anyway) all seem to love the BEP. I dont know why, cause I dont think they are great (though not terrible). But the older, but still hip, crowd loves them. There is a reason they have been everywhere for the last few years and their hit songs have lasted in the top 40 for months.

At least they broke the trend of musicians WAY over the hill...Tom Petty, Springsteen, The stones, The Who, Prince, ect. They went into old people mode as soon as the Janet Jackson incident occured

BEP is as close to hip hop as Nickelback is to good rock music

This. My God that was bad. I lost all respect for Aerosmith for that show.
I actually liked Prince, McCartney, the Stones and Petty. The Who was disappointing.

This year's will be ehh.

Double edged sword... while I'm not a Black Eyed Peas fan, at least they are actually shooting for a demographic outside of 50-60 year old white males for the first time since Janet Jackson whipped out her tits.

The Who/The Boss were worse in my opinion. Better topic would be last good one, Paul McCartney?

Prince was pretty good.

It all comes down to song selection. If The Who started off with Won't Get Fooled Again, went into Behind Blue Eyes and finished with Baba O'Reilly it could have been epic. Starting off with a song from a rock opera (Pinball Wizard) and including another song from said opera was just a poor decision (additionally Who Are You has never been a fan favorite). You have 3-5 songs to entertain - not a full concert. Springsteen made the same mistake although not as pronounced.

Okay, if what they do isn't a fusion of hip hop and pop then it's pop that's been heavily influenced by hip hop.
