ftr, i am not a weis "fan" per se but i do think he has a brilliant offensive mind and it has showed throughout the season. yeah, yeah, he makes a few calls i dont agree with but what coach doesn't? i dont know if i have ever seen a perfectly called game, by any coach!

point being, the offense is not the issue. to criticize the best offense, arguably, in school history is being nothing but a hater with an agenda. and that agenda being taking pride in the "i told ya so" on a message board. you are a sad, lonely individual when your whole self concept comes down to "see, i was right for two years!!1, weis needs to gone!!!1" statements.

criticizing the team in the fourth quarter down by 5 with a chance to win on the road to a top ten team is not a fan i would ever want to associate myself with.

like numerous people have said already, tenuta and the defense are the issues. this defense is one of the worst fundamental defenses in the entire country, IN THE ENTIRE country. it was sickening to watch the team*try* to make tackles. not to mention they have consistently been out of position the entire season. its disgusting.

I've been going around saying "I told ya' so!" and "I've been right for 2 years!"???? Really? That's news to me. I have no agenda. I've defended Weis before when fellow ND fans were criticizing him (after this year's UM game). So I have no idea where you get this agenda stuff from. All the stats in the world haven't equaled sufficient wins. I've taken the defense to task but we knew they stunk going in. And so did Weis. The offense was going to have to win shootouts but he's been calling the game conservatively early on for most of the season and he waits until it's too late to start taking shots downfield. He wasn't as bad last night but he fell into that mindset again. I guess Herbstreit had an agenda too when he pointed out that Pitt's DB's were sitting on 10-15 yard routes and ND was going to have to throw the ball downfield.......

I don't share rocket31's animosity for people that are no longer Weis fans. killer_ewok was there in the Nevada game giving praise to Weis, he wants to see Notre Dame succeed. I do too. I don't care is it's Charlie Weis of ccrunner coaching the irish. As long as a respectable coach (that eliminated ccrunner) can lead the Irish to victory in a classy manner, I'm content.

For what it's worth, the spread for the Southern Cal game was +10.5, and Notre Dame lost by 7. The spread for the Pittsburgh game was +7, and Notre Dame lost by 5. Now I've never defended a coach by saying he beats the spread, but in the two biggest games of the year Weis had done better than the professional gamblers thought he would've. These were not blowout losses that have embarrassed Notre Dame like the debacles last year against Boston College of Southern Cal; so in that regard I do believe this Notre Dame program is taking another step in the right direction, albeit not a leap that we would like. I do think Weis out-coached Carroll this season, and the game plan for Pittsburgh was not the reason we lost. Wannstedt didn't out-coach Weis.

Still though, if Weis loses to Connecticut, stick a fork in him.

That is unbelievable, I still can't believe that call. It may or may not have made a difference but seriously, come on! The call is ruled an incomplete, you can see three refs waving their arms to say incomplete pass so no ND guy goes for it, Notre Dame calls time out, it gets reviewed, overturned (unbelievable), and Notre Dame loses their time out?!

Oh well, at least Notre Dame beat Purdue.

I also concur that the fumble call that overruled the forward pass call on the field was complete you know what. I am glad, however that Notre Dame dropped out of the top 25 because they just don't deserve to be there. their schedule was essentially soft this year, and they just haven't played anything like a national contender. I'm not totally convinced that Coach Weis is responsible for the average year the Irish are having but he is the head coach so he has to take the heat. (Of course I'm not saying he wasn't responsible for the year either!)

It was towards the cross country runner. It might be all Notre Dame has to hang its hat on, but hey, they still beat Purdue.

SJ-Not just the Nevada game but after the Michigan game. Many ND fans were chopping up Weis and I was one of the few defending him and his decisions after the Michigan loss. If I hated the guy and had an axe to grind.....I would've just puled on then. Of course I wanted him to succeed. I've said before that I applaud his tireless efforts on the recruiting trail and the hard work that the man has put in. His philanthropic work should be commended as well. But winning is part of the deal. In fact, it's the big part of the deal. Weis hasn't done that nearly enough.
