Nah, you're right, it wasn't his fault. I think they should be more concerned about the steam that was pouring out of the 88 car more than the fact that they have to start at the back. It's Daytona. Fifteen-year-old Chase Elliott of Dawsonville, Georgia, has signed a multi-year development contract with Hendrick Motorsports. Elliott, the son of 1988 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Bill Elliott, will continue to compete for his family-owned team until he begins competing in NASCAR's development series. Bill Elliott Racing, based in Dawsonville, Ga., will field Chevrolets with support from Hendrick Motorsports.
“The apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree with Chase,” said Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports in a release. “I’ve always admired Bill’s ability in a race car and how he handled himself with the fans. I see those same traits in Chase, with his natural driving talent and an awareness of what he needs to do away from the track to be successful. He comes from a great racing family, and it shows."

Is this common in NASCAR, because I know it is extremely common in F1? (Lewis Hamilton and McClaren)

you mean next generation family or paying kids to drive? Its both, Nascar just lowered the age requirement for local series to 15.

Saw Johnson on PTI yesterday, surprised a guy like that is as popular as he is in Nascar. Didn't seem to fit the type they would usually go for. He might have been the most boring guest they're ever had on PTI as well, my god he is stiff.

He's a 5 time champion, that's why he's popular. What is the 'type they usually go for'?

I dont know, he just too city/corporate. Most nascar fans go to the races to get drunk as hell and see a car wreck. Seems they'd go more for a country style of a driver. He didn't come across as a guy I'd like to hang out with at all. His idea of fun seemed to be drinking an expensive glass of wine, or something equally as yuppie. Nascar is more of a blue collar type of sport and was surprised to see a stuff like him with such a big fan support.

They don't target 'country' anymore. The whole redneck perception is a thing of the past. Of course you have your redneck fans, drivers, but you have that in any other sport too. Jeff Gordon, Carl Edwards, Kasey Kahne, Jamie McMurray, Jimmie Johnson, and many others just don't fit the country/redneck perception everyone has of NASCAR. That's why I laugh when they call it a 'redneck' sport nowadays. Cause it's just simply not true anymore. It's more corporate than any other sport out there.

Yes there is some but not like it used to be. I would say about 15-20%.

I didn't say redneck. Can be more country without being a redneck. But he really had ZERO personality. Might as well have been talking to Watson from Jeapordy. That was all the point I was trying to make.

Same way with horse races as well. Go to belmont and you'll see some of the biggest drunken idiots you've ever seen. They're dressed in pink dress shits with boat shoes instead of cut offs and overalls but the effect is the same. I'd wager some of them go and dont even see a horse.

Really surprised how long Kenseth could stay behind Harvick. Yes he was popping out for a second to get air but then he would get back tucked in. Other tandems were having to so switch there positioning. Wonder if this has to do with the new Ford Engine like they were talking about.
