It is clearly time to get rid of Doug Martin at Kent State. I don't think he has ever produced a winning team as long as he's been there. It's time for him to go. He couldn't even keep Zach Collaros after Zach verbaled to Kent.

Our new AD has gone on record as saying that he wants to get Kent's football program up to speed. It's time for him to put his money where his mouth is.

I would try to find someone who has actually done college recruiting in the Midwest so he knows what the problems are. I think a good Div. II or Div. I-AA head coach would be better than an assistant from a big school.

I'd hire Coach Koglif.

My father was a GA with coach Martin back in the day when he was at the Univ. of Kentucky.

I really don't know if there's a whole lot for him to work with there, or if there ever has

Number 1 recruiting class in the MAC 3 years running and no wining records all 3 years. Martin is horrible, there is enough talent at KSU to win 6 games a year IMO.

It'd be sweet to get Josh McDaniels after Denver fired him...I realize that's a long shot.

I hear that Kent is down to three applicants. Does anybody know who they are? And are there any KSU blogs I can get n?

Yeah, I don't understand Fairwood's logic on this either. I did a quick search on Scout and Kent's recruiting classes ranked as follows in the MAC the past three years;

2010: 11th (out of 13)
2009 12th
2008: 6th

Not sure whose been selling you a bill of goods FK, but Kent is anywhere but tops in recruiting in the MAC.

I know that I've read the past 2-3 years that Kent indeed was ranked best in the MAC in recruiting, probably due to the majority of their recruits being from prep schools. I'm surprised that scout has their rankings anything otherwise. I'm too lazy to find a link so take my post for what it's worth haha.

Sorry Fairwood King, it was Bo..

I went ahead and searched Rivals, and they do have Kent ranked at #3 in 2010, #1 in 2009 and #3 in 2008. Odd that there is such a disparity between the two sites.

Yes sorry I did not get back to you on the other thread. Kent theads get pushed back rather far. I was going with the Rivals rankings which had kent in the top 3 the past 3 years.

I agree a great hire. A well known guy from OSU who is a proven recruiter. I like this hire a lot.

I hope this new coach turns out to be another Don James. I'm old enough to remember the Glory Days of Kent State football (yes, we did have some). I'm glad they picked someone from Ohio State because he's familiar with recruiting in Ohio.

"I'm so excited for Darrell," Tressell said in a statement released by Ohio State. "He has certainly been a difference-maker at Ohio State. The Golden Flashes are starting a golden era led by Darrell Hazell.
"He is an excellent technician, a very talented instructor and teacher, and has great knowledge and insights on the game, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Those qualities take a back seat to the care and leadership he gives to the young men who play for him."
Joel Nielsen, Kent State's director of athletics, said those characteristics were precisely why Hazell won out over a dozen candidates.

Looks like a pretty good hire. I'm sure those Flashes fans out there will be upset he beat out a guy from Bama and Texas, but to each their own. I'm pretty sure there was a reason why this guy was promoted I think at one time to Associate Head Coach

Sucks to lose him at OSU. He was an excellent recruiter.

Would love to see OSU replace him with former grad assistant PJ Fleck, currently at Rutgers. Fleck has been turning heads with the recent commits (Shuler, familiar to ND fans).

Darell Hazell has hired Ohio State defensive quality control Marcus Freeman as linebackers coach.
