Listened to it a few times the past couple days and I gotta say....it's really really dark. None of the tracks would fit a party soundtrack and it almost sounds like he's going emo rap like Kid Cudi. That said, he's cut down on the autotune and is pretty straight forward with his lyrics ('fish sticks' is mentioned) making it a decent album. Rolling Stone gave it 5 stars and while I don't think it's a classic album, it isn't bad.

Anyone else hear it?

I love it. I think it's his best work yet and probably the top release this year.

I don't consider him or Kid Cudi "emo rap" though... I think people tend to slap the "emo" label on anything that's dark, and that's simply not the case.

I can definitely see why this album got 5 stars from Rolling Stone though.

So, while I was disappointed with Kid Cudi's sophomore album, aside from 4 or 5 tracks, this one definitely lived up to the "hype"

Definitely the album of the year, and it's not even really that close. It's at least level with College Dropout and Late Registration, if not better. Kanye will never be the best rapper lyrically due to his style of wordplay, but every song is witty and this album definitely shows he's ready to be considered one of the best producer's of all time. The five stars were well deserved. In terms of a "party soundtrack", at least on my campus, four of the songs (POWER, All of the Lights, the bonus POWER remix, and Monster, as long as you've got a good subwoofer) have already been well received at parties. And he's put out or been featured on a ton of other party songs since his G.O.O.D Friday series started. Don't forget, every Friday until Christmas he'll be putting out another song. That's essentially a whole free album if you put together all of the G.O.O.D Friday songs since they started in September.

I'd say "All Of The Lights" is my favorite song from the album.

I also heard he isn't going to be doing the release every Friday after "All Of The Lights" leaked.

He originally tweeted that but then said he couldn't hold out on his real fans. The last three of them (Chain Heavy, Looking for Trouble, and The Joy) have all come since the leak.

Nice. I haven't been keeping up lately. I think I've heard some of Chain Heavy but I'm not real sure that I liked it or not. Can't really remember though.

Album of the year, for sure.

I don't think Kanye or Cudi is "emo rap." The closest thing to that label would probably be Charles Hamilton.

If its anything like Cudi's latest I doubt I will be into it. Although I only listened to it straight through once, I'm not a fan of Man On the Moon v2.

You're crazy. Kanye is a fucking genius. He knocked this one out of the park too. He also plays his cards right with the media to drum up controversy/interest.

He is undoubtedly one of the smartest artists out.

To each their own, but in terms of being an artist this is the best release of the year.

I'm into music though, not the club banging BS that plays on the radio 20x a day.

This album definitely had thought and meaning put into it.

Im not a fan of that stuff either, just hip hop not that garbage.

I compare what Kanye is doing now to what Andre 3000 did. Went from being a great rapper/talent to....over the top fucking weird.

But Kanye's music isn't over the top weird. It may be a different style, but it's definitely not weird.

There is a reason this album is getting such high praise.

he's going to end up costing himself a ton of guaranteed money by pulling out his Today Show concert deal... He acts as if everything is just this big huge conspiracy against him

I like what I've heard of it, but if the whole thing is like that, he's going to lose some money on this album. It's great music, but it's not "playable" enough.

Yo dlazz... I'm really happy for you, and I'ma let you finish, but Late Registration is one of the best rap/hip-hop albums of all time.
