I remember that thread dlazz. The info links was the final straw for me, it was bullshit.

ABP is good and bad. Luckily the vast majority of internet users don't use it. If everyone did there would be no free sites left on the internet.

I assume that somewhere there is something that is able to track what users are using it then? Not you in particular, but something?

Firefox has its pitfalls too, but I use it for a lot of things.

I might pay $12 if it meant you'd be banned.

How about that justin? Open up a $1 for a week ban service. You'd make tens of dollars.

Ok I've decided we should also have a $1 "unban me/someone else" option. Double our cash flows.

Anyway, congrats Justin.
Ads can provide revenue through view, hit (aka "click" or "hop"), action (opting in, usually), or sale.

They're possibly using some sort of rotator ... kind of like revolving banner or even a contextual banner. Still kinda shady if they didn't tell you about it.

I think you should start doing ads like some of the ones that popped up on JJHuddle. Like this one for example:

They do. Often there is a pixel to place on a page whenever there is an ad there. The pixel is just a 1 x 1 blank image, but everytime the image loads, it is tracked. Thus, you can tell how many times the ad has been "viewed."

Justin, are you using Adsense for your ads?

O-Trap,

Yes, just adsense right now. I would like to eventually open up an advertising platform for "local" businesses around the state. Basically allow businesses to "sponsor" specific forums or submit their own banner ads or whatever else. I'm working on the details for it, i.e. pricing tiers and whatnot. It's a win-win. I get the monies and local businesses will get some exposure. Hooray!

Yeah, that would be nice.

I didn't know if you were on any CPA Networks. I mean, they probably wouldn't bring you a TON of revenue, but with the amount of traffic this site sees, you probably wouldn't have any trouble at least getting accepted as a publisher (affiliate). At least you would be able to take a look around and see what they have. Most do cost-per-signup offers, so there isn't anything people have to buy for you to earn a buck or two.

Or even percentage-based networks (Commission Junction or Clickbank), which only do commissions per actual sale. Actually, the link in my sig is an affiliate link from one of these. It's a nice little book, and a good idea, anyway, but I figured I'd put it down there, just in case anyone wanted to have a look.

That kind of stuff, though.
