I'm a fan of a public school. One that plays whoever is put in front of them, public, private, whatever. They tend to be too busy winning to worry about all of this junk. Perhaps if more schools had that attitude...

If you are refferring to Big Red you are nuts ... I myself do not speak on Big Red behalf .. Big Red has played 6 catholic schools in the same season .. they know what it takes toget to the final they prepare themselves .....Now my opinion is based on the overall view not what I think about my school . Like I said we can handle ourselves very well and I know we can hang with the queen city teams for sure .. LOL I mean we are more like your Pittsburgh type area .. Need I say more ... LOL.. just kidding you got great football down that way and I am a Bearcat fan cause our former QB plays for those guys ... Anyway dont mistake me for speaking for Big Red .. We have 3 state titles and 3 state runners up in the playoff era and multiple big school titles before the playoff era and a whole lot of second place finishes . We are the 3rd winningest team in Ohio history and you can check out who we have faced in years past at www.rollredroll.com

There is one thing that Mooney, Ursuline, Alter, Steubenville, Coldwater, St. Henry, Versailles, Ironton, and a number of other schools around the state have in common: strong parental involvement. The private schools have this because the parents are shelling out big bucks (in addition to paying taxes to the public school system) to have their child(ren) attend the private school. The public schools I mentioned have it due to a number of reasons (like a strong sense of community, school pride, faith in the coach, general interest in their child's well-being).
The schools that do not have this parental involvement (most inner city schools, and various other schools around the state) will never see success on the field. It doesn't matter how many multipliers you put in, or how many groups you separate out. They just won't win.
You want more teams to have a chance at winning a state title? Have the coach, teachers, and faculty create an atmosphere that encourages parental support and discipline in and out of the school.
I'm floored by the number of people who want to punish schools who have the strong parental involvement and community support, and give a hand up to the schools that encourage families to simply not give a shit.
Hell, in Youngstown, the previous superintendent's plan to get the district out of academic emergency was to have the kids who don't show up and were going to fail the state board tests just not take them. Then they wouldn't count to wards the city of Youngstown's average. You honestly think there is not a direct correlation to that type of attitude and the product that you see on the football field?!
It all comes down to parental involvement. If you have it, you're school is going to do well. If you don't, you will always be a bottom feeder in athletics.
There is no doubt that parental support is a huge factor. When schools like Buchtel and Cleveland Glenville win they overcome the lack of parental support. That is why their achievements are so amazing. It is possible to be successful with very little parental support, but very difficult. That is one of the reasons that this new formula is so sorely needed. It is sad, but there are parents that won't become involved no matter who the coach is. Some people can't handle a positive and successful atmosphere. It is a major achievement when kids overcome all of those obstacles.

This came straight from the mouth of a Big Red football parent "This years team(2010) was 33% open enrollment".

I have no idea what the % is but if its 33% then 33% of the kids that go to Steubenvill city schools are transfers .. I have two nephews that live in Toronto and they both now attend Steubenville city schools one is in 2nd and one is a freshman .. the freshman plays .. I also know alot of other Toronto kids go to Steubenville mostly younger ones .. They have excellant programs and brand new facilities ..true .. When I lived in Steubenville a year ago my nieghbors kids went to Indian Creek and I lived downtown not the west end .. although aint sure why . I think the kids had rough lives so to speak . maybe they got into alot of trouble while in school in Steubenville .. I also know a retired teacher from IC district and she told me that IC gets alot of kids from poorer families from Steubenville .. She said alot of the kids had hygen issues other social issues .. Who knows ...Just telling you things that I know .. Kids dont trnsfer to Steubenville jsut for football .. Its true .. I did hear that we do have a reallly good runner that came from Toronto comming up in the next few years .. He started in Steubenville in the 8th grade .. so did he get recruited ... and his parents are teachers in Toronto ....ooooooooooooo yep and yeas they caught it from my understanding .. just as two star football players that left Toronto after there junior year and went to steunbenville central ... I can just tell you the things I am aware of and I wont hide anything Ill tell you straight

how often do you see a kid transfer from a public school to a private school ? How often do you see a kid of a protestant faith leave public school in the middle of his schooling to go to caholic school? I only see that happening in football for real .. I aint talking about catholic families who cant afford to send all there kids through catholic school or maybe they have only enough money for the high school part and not the grammer school part ... I know of several friends and people that I have grown up with that had those issues ... I know one guy that is salty because his brother and sister went to catholic school and he had to go to public school .. he hates Big Red even though he went there .. He is always pulling for all the catholic schools ... dudes a little nuts though .. evertime Big Red loses it cheers him up especially if by mooney or Ursulin .. or another catholic school.. I find that funny .. I know a guy that left Central in his senior year cause he thought he got a girl pregnant and then married her .. he graduated from Big Red even though he went three years at Central ... Both of them guys were good football players neither seen the field at Big Red ... I remember another real good Central player that transfered to Big Red his senior year from Central . a good football player and he didnt see the field .. these thingas happened years ago ...I know an older gentleman who was a real rough neck and he transfered from Central to Big Red in the 60's . He did want to play for Big Red but a priest who had him or some class or was in some kind of charge lied and said the guy was ineligable because of an incomplete course or something to that effect .. his words not mine butr very credible ... my step father when he was young and this was like the 30's was taken by a priest and told he was going to catholic school .. Naturally things were run alot differently back then and they didnt pay tuition ... Just some stories I wanted to share all true and I have no agenda

Based on your multiple posts suggesting private schools "cheat" and when added to your desire for separate playoffs this is difficult to believe.Thinthickbigred;634138 wrote:... all true and I have no agenda

I know some catholic friends of mine are not happy with the voucher system because they missed out of catholic school .. they could not afford to go .. One family I know who's dad was a fireman sent only his oldest son to Central the others went to Big Red but mom was Big Red so most didnt mind other than the second oldest son who resented it and see's some of these kids going to play ball for Benidictine and other schools just for football purposes ... Like I previously said my mother wanted to send my sister to catholic school but she was told it would cost double because we didnt belong to a catholic parish ... see where some of my anger lies ... I have several catholic friends probably just as many as anybody else but these football ethics in HS are bogus and have way too many double standards ... I am speaking from my perspective only

Vouchers are set by the state based upon failing school districts. The private schools have no control over which public schools are failing systems. For example, any student in Youngstown City Schools can go to a private school because Youngstown is a failing district. The state feels that students deserve an opportunity to go to a school that meets the needs. I think every student should have the opportunity to receive a voucher and choose the school that best meets his/her needs. It would make schools more productive.

and I agree with kids getting the best absolutley no problem whatesoever however Athletically speaking Mooney fields one of the top teams in the USA not just Ohio but the entire country . We have a faulty playoff system . and Ursulin has never been a slouch but now with that coach they are as dominate as Mooney .. those are just two examples and Ursulin being a D-5 team is kinda crazy and that team they had this year could vie for the D-1 title no doubt about it . The system is flawed especially at the lower levels where a school might have a 100 year team and make a charge in the playoffs . I just find it disheartening when they are playing a team clearly 3 divisions higher when it comes to talent and size .. Its not a coincidence ..Like I said I dont equate catholic schools with the axis of evil ,but they definitly have some great advantages and no advatage that public schools may seem to have compares with the private schools ... It is what it is . As a Big Red fan I want our team to be able to take on all teams regardless of size and whatever division they are in .. We were a Big school power for decades until our enrollment fell so we still have the desire to play big school ball and we have the backing to do it . But we are one of the very few and I am not speaking on behlf of Big Red I am thinking of the small school more than anything ,its true I really feel that way

We also charge more for students who are not part of our parish but nowhere near double. A good deal of our funding comes from the Sunday collection and if your family isn't part of the parish, you're only paying tuition while everyone else is paying tuition plus their Sunday contribution. That said, no one is ever denied a Catholic education at DSJ. We offer tuition assistance but no one attends for free.Thinthickbigred;634157 wrote:Like I previously said my mother wanted to send my sister to catholic school but she was told it would cost double because we didnt belong to a catholic parish ... see where some of my anger lies
How often do I see a kid transfer from a private school to a public school? Around here, rarely. It's much more prevalent the other way or between public schools.

show me where I used the word cheat. and if by some chance I did use that word which I dont think I did then it was toung and cheek . you guys are able to take advatage of the opportunties given to you by the flawed system we have . ethically speaking i dont know how to judge this . I had to listen to alot of sanctamony BS from catholic school people growing up and I got real tired of them playing the underdog card all the time .. like I keep saying its wet , but its warm, and yellow .. I dont think its rain

I don't think you need a speech writer but then again I wasn't questioning a speech I was asking for clarification on your post. Now that I understand what you meant by "you guys" it isn't just us guys that that can take advantage of what you deem as a flawed system. You can too. You simply choose not to.Thinthickbigred;635454 wrote:Im not a politician Do I need a speech writer? The side that I am opposed to in this debate . That is you guys . Fair enough. Thats how I look at it . Lets get back to the subject matter . In my last several posts I have tried to give you examples and things that I have been aware of from my standpoint .. Now we can go back to slinging mudd and acting like kids ,or we can start debateing this argument like grown ups ... Lets talk about substance . I think I have tried . I think Ive prooved several points . Im sure if you read my posts you will see I am not Bull pooping ... I really doubt that many of us on this thread will ever change our minds ,or are too prideful to admit that the other is probably right ,but I post so another person on the fence will see the light . Atleast the way I see it .

again I was reffering to him taking stupid shots at me . It has no substance .. its like the biggest mouth in the room needs to be heard .. To drown out the other person by shouting and name calling .. He said I was illiterate ... sure I bet .. i bet Id whoop him at chess or any card game maybe my typing isnt the best or even my grammer but so what I know how to convey myself and I have an understanding of what words mean and even some in a few different languages.. so he can assume all he wants and you guys can team up on me all you want ... I can talk all kinds of sports also for hours if I wanted and i know what I am talking about .
