For those of you who do not get the Sunday Vindicator, the second Campbell scrimmage is also at Knapick Field on August 19th vs. Youngstown East at 10 AM.

Not sure. If I were you though I'd leave the camcorder at home until the regular season starts.reddevil90;848044 wrote:Thanks Dean!!! I want to goI'm gonna try!!! Think i'll get told to shut the camcorder off if i bring it???? I know some coaches freak out and get paranoid that other school is scouting the team!!!

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too. I don't want to screw it up!!! But is anyone going????
Hey i have a few Trivia Questions up over on Campbell Memorial's Facebook... There about the dark times in Red Devils History... Hey does anyone have any information on this about Campbell and Struthers way back!!! Didn't a game once cause a riot and people getting hurt? And i remember my dad saying something that some building where put on fire. He also i think said they stopped the rivalry for a couple of years for fear it would cause similar riots to happen!!!

im going to play devils advocate...probs with this team. Defensively were not aggressive and weak in the secondary. LB are young and inexperienced. Offensively Reyes has problems taking the reins and does not have the big play ability Lester had. Our receiving core also doesnt have that big play ability. Jales is only real star on offense. We dont have multiple threats on offense. Special teams we dont cover well and we dont have Skevo to hide our mistakes on returns.

I see someone shares my concerns. On offense, we may have some weapons though. Ja'les, Patton, Rushton, and Wigfall all have good speed. Ja'les has a brother, a sophomore, who is a good athlete. I believe any of these are capable of lining up at fullback: Charles Smith, Horvath, and Carey Clindscale . Shawndale Rey will see some time in the backfield too. Reyes has never taken a snap in a varsity game. I heard good things about him following the passing scrimmages. But one can only read so much into those. Let's see what happens when Reyes faces a pass rush and a blitz.
We lost four solid offensive linemen in Martinez, Pagan, Guidos, and Benedis. Sean Burnett will fill one of those holes on the offensive line as he played some there last season. Big Shaq McWilson is also back. My guess is Sean and Shaq may line up on the same side more often than not. We may have a couple of sophomores starting on the offensive line. Both are 240 plus pounds. The secondary really concerns me. We had good athletes at those positions last season and they were really burned by the Akron Manchester QB, who was then just a sophomore. I hear Charles Smith is doing a good job at LB so far. The strength of the defense is supposed to the the defensive line. The kicking game should be a plus. Sudakov is one of the best in the area. Kick coverage has to improve over last season. I have not seen that aggressive, physical, and intimidating defense in many, many years. reddevil90, I will be going to the intrasquad thing on Saturday provided I can find out what time it takes place.

Thanks Dean. If you fond out let me know... I was told Patton was not a offensive type player. But he dominates in the secondary!!! He proved his wort starting at corner last year for Poland. He also had a few punts and kick returns for td's!!! Defense is what i'm hearing is our forte and i'm thinking Ja'les and Patton might end up covering! we are short on offense no denying that!.... Don't forget something. Ja'les is also a real good QB. Don't let the possibility of him getting the nod at Qb more then not if Reyes cant get it done. I have seen them practise 3 times so far this year. And Ja'les was also behind center. I got a feeling that if the defense can get to where they need to be. We should not need a explosive defense. just need to fill a few holes this year. And when i was there they were intense!!! I cant tell you we will be good or bad this season. But i can tell you we wont go backwards.
La'trel is younger but a little bigger then Ja'les... He also posses two things. He can pass the ball and Also can run the ball. I was told he got kicked off the team last game of the year. Then just found out he was never in trouble and played the last game... I have to go by what i see! Can this team continue from last year? I think so. Can they take down the 3 headed monster in the playoffs? I don't want to answer that just yet...but i wil! i have to say no! I hope i'm wrong but realistically they will be playing a div 2 schedule and they prob go undefeated again and win state. Until the state does something about this clear as water problem then teams that deserve to win it wont have a chance.
Good luck Campbell Defend Knapick

I would be surprised if Ursuline goes undefeated with the difficult schedule they play...........St. Edward, Mentor, Steubenville, Lake Catholic, Mooney, etc. But that does not mean they aren't the favorite to repeat in D-5. Something tells me Coach Sikora will find a spot on offense for Dominic Patton. Patience is the key with Reyes. He is our QB. If the O-line can block, Campbell will have another good season.

I agree. Last season Dominic was stuck on defense only because of the depth Poland had and the "politics" within that program. I hear Dom does not have the moves that his brother Darius has. But he has very good speed. I expect to see him on offense.

He did play on offense last year like the last receiver to go too. But not every down!! I mean he had a Super Receiver as a brother!! Dom could start at corner on most teams in the area. I talked to a good friend that i worked with at Fonderlac Country Club that is a Fanatic when it comes to Poland sports! He said he is not Darius and not his dad. But if he can get into open field he cant be caught! He also is a very good kick returner. I expect to see him on Kicks returns and punt returns along with Shawdale Ray and Smith or La'Trell. I don't see Ja'les doing any kind of Kick Duties unless there down and need a score badly.. I'm think we are gonna see a lot of experimenting in the Ridge game since they are gonna be more then likely the weakest team we play next to Edgewood. I'm not putting down Mineral Ridge at all. But they lost all but 2 players and they only have one Senior with starting experience on Defence. they are very very young and inexperienced. this will be one of the rare down years for Ridge. So that's why i see us if we get up early playing a ton of sophomores and inexperienced players. That game is gonna be a lot of fun to watch not only cause its the kick off to the season. But cause its a Home game at Knapick.. Here is to hopefully getting the 9th straight Home win.

Oh wow ops!!! LOL Sorry!!! That's the second time i was corrected. And i have him on Facebook and Twitter you would think i would know this! Thanks Lets_GO! I don't see any weakness other then being young,,,,, But that could be a curse..... The team is not small for a div 5 team and has more then enough talent then a average D5 team. If this team can get 4 out 5 in the first 5 games ill be very pleased.... But if they are go 5 out of 5 then you better watch out!!!! I'm staying positive cause at this point last year every one said the same thing they had holes to fill on defense and offense... with the loss of Darrio Bivens, Derek Carter, A.J. Kelly, Jose, Martinez, Michael Brooks! Then you might as well say we Lost Skevo also... and we turn out to be the best team in 10 years and the first to win a playoff in 20 years!! This is only Practice and they have a long way to go to get it together... the kids are forming a leadership and enjoying the practice and they love the coaches and can tell by how hard they have worked out this year... I don't feel this is a true rebuild team. I think they can accomplish everything they did last year...

Yes it does but there really isn't anything for this years team. At the end he dedicates the video to the 2011 and 2012 red devils. I'm working on one right now with footage from the 80's and early 90's teams incorporating it with what ever footage i can find of this eras teams... its driving me nuts right now cause i don't have any footage other then scouting Ohio and local news channels. i wish i can get the last two years game videos. I hope Coach Sikora gives the school the game footage for practice to the school and that the media department continues on with the selling of the old school Devil football videos. I'm extremely happy to have what i have. and i will say they where put together perfectly with the printing and DVD case holder.

That's my point. It's not a preview. You are doing a nice thing putting up the videos on youtube. The passionate fans of Campbell appreciate it.
But how many kids really know about the tradition?

what lettermen does Campbell have coming back? Obviously Hughes is back and he is an absolute stud but how is the defense going to hold up and what offensive linemen do they have coming back?

No its not but i found the video and just linked it. Its not on the youtube that i run. Yeah i see your point and thought the same thing also. But its nice to see them doing things to promote there success.
To answer your question about how many kids know about the tradition? Absolutely none. Sorry but it extremely true. i bet if there was nothing up in the locker rooms and you ask a kid what did the 89-90 red devils do? I bet half would say they don't know and others would probably say won a playoff game. none of them probably seen a video of those teams. and the only coach that would know anything about those teams Is Coach Zetts... He is the only coach to go against those team... And also Sikoras Dad! I would think that Dom Patton would want to see his father back in the day.. But the situation might lead some to believe he just don't care....

Found this very little article on Vindy Blitz...
SCRIMMAGES
Aug. 13: Springfield, 10 a.m.
Aug. 18: East, 10 a.m.
QUOTE from the COACH
"Our seniors have been a part of 17 wins and two playoff appearances along with winning a championship the past two seasons. Goals and expectations will remain the same as we prepare for the 2011 football season."
Mickey Sikora, coach
That would make 3 playoff games from 2009-2010. and only one championship and that was last year...

And he's just summing up the past 2 seasons of the seniors experience.
2 playoff appearances and a championship.
It's correct, think about it.
Btw Jose Martinez was a senior this past season, not with Darrio and crew. You may be thinking of Alex Lopez.

I politely disagree, I'm gonna say something that may not be too popular but I believe when it's all said and done Reyes will be one of the GREATEST QBs Campbell Memorial has ever had. The kid flat out wins and makes plays, and he works his a$$ off to get better, one thing #2 didn't do much of. That's why he was as good as a senior as he was as a freshman, he never put in the work in the weight room or off season to get better. Neither does the new #2. I love those kids like they were my own family but talent alone will only get you so far.
Mark my words, these next 2 years we have with Reyes under center will be exciting and very successful.

Lets_go, I hope you are right. I see two different dates for the East scrimmage. If you look at the Campbell article, it's on the 18th, which is a Thursday. If you look at the East article, it's on the 19th, which is a Friday. We need to get this clarified.lets_go_devils;850334 wrote:I politely disagree, I'm gonna say something that may not be too popular but I believe when it's all said and done Reyes will be one of the GREATEST QBs Campbell Memorial has ever had.
