yes, and thanks to justin for putting it there. I realize i'm in the minority, but probably wouldn't be hear as often without it. I personally find it offensive, and feel the same things could be stated just as easily without the expletives, but, again, I realize I'm in the minority.
I think there's a better chance this sight could become a bigger and more productive sight if the cursing were not allowed. In the old days of JJ (God rest it's soul), you must admit , it was a very popular place to go to talk sports. Particularly high school sports. And there were lots of people that went there for that purposes mainly. LOTS. The pettiness of the mods and JJ himself, were WAY over the top, and their pages of rules, what you could say, what you couldn't,...looking at someone crosseyed could get you banned...etc etc....all that made that sight lame, and eventually led indirectly to its demise. Was thinking , and hoping, the same concept, without all the rules and mod's stupidity, would be brought to this sight, but , to follow the "free huddle" theme, things went so far the other way (no rules, post/say anything you want, etc). i think a lot of us became a little disillusioned and, particularly the high school sports section of Ohio Chatter, i think is very much less active than a year ago, to the point many who chatted regularly there are no longer around. I know most have posted here that this sight is not primarily about high school sports, which is fine. And not trying to be like JJ is fine, but realize by doing so that lowers the "cap" of how big this sight can grow to a certain extent, as potential high school sports chatterers will tend to be driven off more by the language they see here, as it includes high school students, and more importantly their parents. I personally am on this sight much less than6-12 months a year ago, mainly because it's not mainly what I'm on here for. But again, it obviously is meeting the needs of many, as they are here, and it continues to grow. So, not trying to be negative at all, just giving an opinion.

the fact that individual words have the power to offend someone amazes me. but no i do not use the profanity filter. they are words, and profane words have the power to more descriptively and informally portray a situation.

This is true and for the most part they don't offend me. But on this site some abuse the freedom and take them beyond what you are describing.

but why does it matter? you read the letters f-u-c-k in succession and for some reason that upsets you? its a word, hell its not even that bad, i can think of many more damaging combinations of words that contain no profanity.

If you get bothered by profanity then I think there is a problem with you.

That isn't to say that one cannot think that profanity lowers the quality of discourse or that it should be used sparringly.

But there's no way I'm allowing someone using "bad" words to bother me in any way.

Oh yeah...fuck fuck fuck.

Apparently you are misunderstanding my post. I said for the most part these words don't offend me. That means most times they are used they do not offend me. Its all about context and choice of use. The same goes for idiot, moron, douche, nutbag, retard, etc... I have on rare occasions emphasized a point with one of these adjectives. And yes the letters f-u-c-k can be found in a couple of my nearly 2,000 posts.

I drop the f-bomb on this site about as much as I do in real life as a percentage of my conversation(at least when I am around other people). It just gets old when people throw it out like teenage girls say "like".

There is probably a high corrolation between when you use those words and when you reply to me. :)

i understand. but i still dont see why its the words that upset you, not just the context of the situation in general.

I was going to reply with "too long, didn't read", but I think I'll revise it with

"too long, and your grammar and spelling suck".

I'm with you. I don't use words like that in my daily life so I'm not going to use them online. I can make my point without using words like that better than you can make yours with them.

I can say the same thing, spark...there's one poster in particular from the Cinci area that absolutely can't post without using the word--it's ridiculous.
