I have to agree with this.SQ_Crazies wrote: Ok so why is it that we bitch about the Yankees in a league with no cap, but in capped leagues there are teams that are the same exact way (I've proven that the Lakers are worse in terms of this being a bad thing) and no one is complaining there. Boohoo, people only bitch because it's easier than saying your team should just step up and beat them.
Basketball is the worst offender when it comes to Salary Cap.
You get teams like Boston, LA, and Cleveland going over the cap anyway, so what's the point in even having it.
Which is why I love the NFL Salary Cap.

Nobody is accusing of them of not earning titles. The players they have are great players. They have them because they can outbid everyne else, spend $250 million/year on payroll and still make a profit. When you buy the best players you usually have at least a good team. How many times in the past 20 years has someone outspent the Yank$? How many years out of the last 20 did the Yank$ make the playoffs? (a necessary requisite for 'championships') A special independent commission comes to the conclusion that teams spending the most money almost always win. They have studies and statistics to prove it.
If you want to talk about 'heavy bullshit' you can look in the mirror.

LOL, why aren't you complaining about the Lakers buying their way into the playoffs? Because their league is capped and it doesn't matter anyways?
The only thing that is heavy on this side are all these rings. Keep cryin'. If you were a Yankee fan you'd love it, if your an Indians fan and they spent money like the Yankees, you'd love it.

Oh and I think some are accusing them of not earning their titles--as in saying "they buy their titles". It's an old, sad argument that no one made for the last 8 years did they? Only when they win another one will people complain. Ask the Marlins how much money a ring costs. They beat the Yankees with a 1/3 of the payroll. Like I said, it's easier to bitch about money than say your team should have stepped up and beat them. Whatever is the easier excuse!

All of those years someone else was ahead of the Yankees in Payroll. And amazingly the teams with the Highest Payroll, don't always win.

LOL, a study that comes out in 2000 that studies the time between the strike in '94 and the year 2000 is proof to you? What would the same study show since 2000???? Come on genius, tell me. They did a study of a time when the Yankees won 4 in 5 years and had a dynasty going. They've still had a really high payroll since then and they didn't win so what now? I could do a lot of studies for a select period of time for almost any subject matter to make an argument sound the way I wanted it to.HitsRus wrote: Nobody is accusing of them of not earning titles. Oh wait....ineptitude? No, No No, this is an organization with 27 titles!
You have to make the playoffs to win the World Series...and the Yanks have missed once since 1994. The money buys the ticket to the dance.....Once you are in, anything can happen, and payroll doesn't mean anything.
Yankee fans are so spoiled and used to having it every way that they measure success in 'titles'...the people in KC and Pittsburgh would consider a playoff appearance a success.

good thing I threw you a bone and included the year's before the players strike....or you wouldn't have even posted. Did that on purpose. Heeh hee.
2008....ONCE..... since the collective bargaining agreement that ended the strike. LOL.

You cannot be serious. Compare and contrast the Tampa Bays and the Marlins vs the Yanks and Red Sox over the past 15 years.HighRoller74 wrote:I always love that claim. The fact that teams like the Marlins and Rays continue to field teams that can go to the World Series, proves that is not the case.SQ_Crazies wrote: But wait highroller, what about the fact that they buy their titles?!?!
Each team plays the system a different way. The Yankees use the system to acquire talent and try to win every year.
Teams like the Indians keep the payroll as small as possible, regardless if the team is a winner or not, just so the owner can make some money.
Money wins...lack of money loses. Period. Discussion////

Like I've said about 3 times now, it's much easier to whine about them spending money than it is to just say your team should step up and beat them.

The owners won't allow what? The main reason for the gross inequality in baseball is not due to the owners collectively. Only Steinbrenner likes the present day structure. Even the Red Sox brass has complained about the Yankees buying championships.HighRoller74 wrote:Complain all you like. They just aren't going to be able to go on a $450 million spending spree.
The second group to be blamed are the MLB collective bargainers. Baseball players are grossly overpaid for what they do...in comparison to other sports.
Baseball union mentality. Do well in Cleveland, Cincy, Pitttsburgh...your reward is LA, LA, NY, NY, Boston, Philly.
Communism works in the NFL. Capitalism is an epic fail in baseball.

How is it an epic fail?! It's an epic fail because your team sucks??? I already put the numbers out there. There is always going to be one team that is on the top--no one is complaining about the Steelers or Lakers because it's harder to do--you can't just say they buy their titles. But they've been just as successful as the Yankees in the last 30 years.

no one complains about the Steelers because the playing field is level.
"Communism works in the NFL. Capitalism is an epic fail in baseball."
The Steelers and other smaller market teams are able to win because the Jets and the Giants can't write $450 million in checks to get Troy Palumalu, Peyton Manning, Ray Lewis and Adrian Peterson.

Has nothing to do with my team sucking. It has to do with the salary spread in baseball....whereby the top spending team's payroll is 4 to 5 times higher than the small market teams.SQ_Crazies wrote: How is it an epic fail?! Whereby the Steelers have done very well, the Yankees have done better over the past 30 years.
But let me add this regarding football versus baseball. Coaching is much more important in the NFL versus "managing" in baseball.
The Steeler success is a tesaiment to good management, but also a testament to good coaching.
Let me put it another way...a crude way...but a way that you might understand.
In Nevada, whorehouse "A" is allowed 1 million dollars to buy 10 gorgeous women. Whorehouse "B" is allowed 200K to buy 10 plain looking ladies.
Which whorehouse will draw in the most customers? Which whorehouse will be the most successful? Which whorehouse will generate the most revenue?
To the Yankee apologists on this thread, maybe, just maybe, a little "whorehouse" economics will remove your blinders.

What Steeler fans don't understand.....if the NFL were structured like MLB, the Steelers would be crap after they lose Ben, Palumaulu, Ward, Harrison, Holmes, Ike Taylor.
As much as I hate the Steelers, I never bad mouth the Rooneys. Never have...never will.

You really want to post the Marlins winning percentage over the last 15 years...and then compare and contrast with the Yankees?SQ_Crazies wrote: Lack of money losses....tell that to the team you mentioned, the Marlins.
square...your argument is a hoot and a half. A joke.
Wayne Hyzenga (sp) "spent" his way to a championship in 1997. He publicly admitted as much. He lost shitloads of money that year...but he wanted his team to win. It was soooo bad...that he dumped virually the entire team in 1998.
In 1998...the Marlins were a pathetic bunch of crap. Their record was 55 wins and 107 losses. Thay's right...55 and 107
Do you think the Yankees will lose 107 games next year?
Read your history.

Sign A-Rod, Texeira, Damon, Sebathia, Pettite, Swisher, and AJ Burnett. Oh wait...I forgot...that's what the Yankees did....My bad.
In other words...the #3 hole hitter (FHOF), their #4 hole hitter (FHOF), their 2 hitter....and their #1, #2, and #3 starting pitchers.

then why are you having so much difficulty?
...and you should apologize for the ineptness....9 trip to the playoff in 10 years and only one title?.....ooooh
