I got a 2003 Grand Cherokee (auto). Lately I've noticed this high pitched squeal that comes from the front of the Jeep. Not brake squeal, but almost like a noise that a speaker would make. However, this noise only comes on when the car is in motion, traveling above 20 mph and with my foot OFF the gas. I put my foot on the gas, noise is gone...as soon as I take it off it comes back. It doesn't seem to come on when I start it up, however it remains present if I'm stopped with the Jeep in gear and foot on the brakes.

I have no idea what this noise is, and my local guy has yet to be able to reproduce the noise. Tried driving with the radio off and the noise is still there!

Could be?...but the "tone" of the noise is constant, almost like a noise coming from something electrical. I would think that a belt would have more of a squeaking noise, like it needs to be greased or replaced or something. I don't know, I'm going to take it to another mechanic right when I hear the noise next time. It's slowly killing me inside.

Would that cause overheating? Luckily I haven't experienced that.

Had a Buick that did that once and it turned out to be a shield around the brakes. It may be there when your foot is on the gas, but the engine sound may make it inaudible. Worth checking if they have shields around the brakes. In a deserted parking lot, test the sound with all of the windows down and see if turning right of left makes it any worse.
