I honestly think that was intentional. I think that they thought that if they went pay right when the playoffs started that everyone would pay up because they wouldn't want to miss out on the playoff discussion. The only error in their thinking was they they still had free forums where everyone could post the same content without paying. I think they also didn't expect someone to start a rebel site or that it would be as successful as this place has been.
