If it cost a lot more for maintenance and upkeep on a turf field, then I see it as a burden to the school and the tax payers, given the state of our current economy. I'm not trying to bring up a sour subject, but it is just one thing I never understood about things like this. And also... Is the money being equally spent on girl's sports?
I have read articles that say the maintenance and upkeep on an artificial surface is substantially less than natural grass, and some have said that they are practically the same. There is no doubt that you can have more events during the school year on an artificial surface, which could allow school districts to collect more gates. If you are asking are they spending the same amount on the girls sports? Well they can play girls soccer on the football field, and girls are in the band. If the school has field hockey it can also be played there. Obviously the football team is going to require the greatest expense on its playing surface, as they also bring in the most money for the school of all the sports. For most schools, it is the only sport that actually makes money for the school and is a source of pride for the community, thus why locals will donate to help the upkeep of many stadiums in Ohio.
