No disdain for those on them, just for those that I see abusing the system. Government assistance is not a way of life, it wasnt designed for that but has morphed into it for some. What tears me up are the group I talked about, they are baby manufacturers. Their kids are nothing more than a piece of property, money for the parent. Also, pretty simple math, very few kids who grow up in this environment get out of it when they grow up. So, with the generation gap being as little as 15 to 20 years between groups, you have 3 or 4 generations living and surviving by government assistance. I have a problem with people who work for the government who dont live up to their expectations of their jobs, you know those guys in Washington! lol

I guess it hits home more for me when I walk around these kids every day and hear and see what they live through.

Bottom line is, this problem starts with the adults in the kids lives, that is where you start. Teachers have influence, but not like parents do.

Amen. Becoming educated and educating is primarily the responsibility of the child and parent respectively. It has to be that way. Formalized education is used as a tool to augment the educational process.

If complete responsibility is placed upon an institution to educate the children in this country we will fail for they alone simply do not have the ability.

It is disheartening. But we also have to realize that a vast majority on these programs aren't money grubbing baby factories feeding off the government teet but merely people in bad situations.

Pants, you must also realize that a simple downplaying of those occurences help nothing either. I would think that a teacher who has to deal with this sort of thing every time he/she goes to work would have more real experience with it than you and I put together.
If everybody knows at least 1 family (I happen to know of several) who scams the system like this, the numbers add up.

I think when someone figures out a way for the programs to exist for the people who legitimately need them and a way to keep people from abusing them they should definitely come forward with it since many would like it implemented.

^^^^^ You probably wouldnt like the answer! lol Enforcement by means of investigation. Yeah, I know cost too much, but in the long run it should pay for itself. I also think assistance should be step based, meaning working to improve your situation. If on assistance you can find work and keep a level of assistance, be it medical, food and housing costs. Penalties such as drug testing to keep assistance.

How about after x months/years on assistance there is an audit or some other investigation to make sure that A: you actually do need to be on assistance and are using the help appropriately and B: If you are doing both those things if there is any other means to help you get back on your feet?

Yeah that sounds like a great idea.

Take the kids and put them in government run "schools" where they are raised to be soldiers. This way there is always a supply of trained soldiers.

I think at planned parenthood the pill is almost free already. Birth control is cheaper than welfare babies.

If a minor has a baby the parents of the teens should have to pay to raise the baby. Parents are financially responsible for their non adult kids already.

I have always been against the universal health care idea, and this further proves my point. In addition, I still think its awful that I have to pay for health insurance for EVERYONE WHO I DONT KNOW....rant over.
