It appears Favre's streak of 291 consecutive starts is in jeopardy on Sunday. While it has been officially established and validated by the OC that Favre is a Doosh, the 291 consecutive starts in the NFL is truly a phenomenal accomplishment.

Which streak do you feel was tougher to achieve...Favre's or Ripken's MLB streak? I personally don't like him but feel Favre should be handed the new tiltle of the "Iron Horse" over Ripken. And Tavares Jackson becomes the new Wally Pipp.

I would also go with Favre, based simply on the more physical nature of his sport. And the way he plays the position. He takes chances with his body. No disresepct to Ripken, his streak is unbreakable too.

Favre, and it's there's not even a doubt in my mind, and I'm a huge baseball fan. The physical nature of the sport combined with the fact he plays a position where every single defensive player is trying to knock him out of the game if possible.

The Wally Pipp reference doesn't really make sense here. Pipp was the guy who took a day off to allow Gehrig to begin his steak.

I think Favre's streak will be harder to break.

are you kiddin' me? the Wally Pipp reference is always used when talking about breaking a longevity record.

I don't even particularly like Brett Favre, but he is the nobrainer choice here.

I don't know if it's "always" used but often times when it's used it's referenced inaccurately.....kind of like in this case.

Ripken. More games. And I would pretty much never pick/side with Favre on anything.

I know football rules all....but Ripken never got a rest. Look at it mathematically. Way more baseball players in baseball history than football. How many players have more than 1/3 of Ripken's streak 5...6? I don't know football records nearly as well but I'll assume there are way more players that have started 98 consecutive football games. Just wanna do QB......I think there are 2 or 3 that have 1/2 as much as Farve....I think Miguel Tejada fell a little short of Ripkens total.

Both streaks are insane and neither will be broken....though Peyton Manning..is his still going? Ain't no one coming within a 1,000 of Ripken. What are there 5 guys a year in baseball play every game......maybe 2 or 3....certainly football is exponentially more physical demanding....but how many players/QB's play every game a year 100, 10-15 QBs?

In the past 2 season exactly 3 players have played in every game for just 1 season...no one has played in every game the past 2 seasons and no SS has played every game for a couple of years.

They are both extremely impressive, but I'll go with Farve because baseball is a terrible terrible sport.

Jim Marshall played 282 consecutive games as a defensive lineman in the NFL. I know mathematically Bret has him beat, but Jim played a much more physcial position that required he hit a guy on every snap. I am sure there have been a lot of times Brett may not even been touched for stretches in a game as a QB.

Ripken never used his ego to force unwarranted starts unlike Favre (that we know of), so Ripken.

However, it's bullshit that the fans kept voting him into the ASG for being a completely average player that showed up to play a lot.

while Favre's accomplishment on the field is admirable...his record will be broken long before Ripken's is ever touched...

In fact, Peyton Manning is surprisingly close, less than 100 games behind Favre...and if you look at the top 10, there are three current streaks...Eli, Peyton, and Favre...and one recently stopped streak (Tom Brady) in the mix.

by comparison, Ripken broke a record that had stood for nearly 60 years. The most recent active run at his record ended in 2007 with Miguel Tejada more than 1500 games behind. There is no current active streak greater than 300, meaning that any ballplayer now is 2300 games behind Ripken already...no active player is in the top 20 of consecutive games played.

It is ludicrous to compare the two records in any way.

I'll say Ripken for this reason.

In the NFL, it's entirely possible to be injured during a game on Sunday, miss an entire week's worth of practice, and be out there the next game. In baseball, there are no real off-days; most teams play between 26 and 28 of every 30 days, so even a minor injury will cause a game to be missed.
