nice article on a kid who many "experts" didn't give a snowball's chance of seeing a lot of action for the Buckeyes (and justifiably so)..but he sure proved 'em wrong

I knew he was having a good year, but I never would have guessed he was leading the big ten in receiving yards. (with a game or two extra than most, but still that's pretty good.)

I truly do like Dane...but really now how hard is it to be "The Pride of Toledo"? ...not like there's a whole lotta competition. I mean really after Jamie Farr who else is there?

Friends form Central have mixed opinions on him. Some say he's a genuine gentleman, others....not so much. When I left St. Francis I almost went to Central (sjmvsfscc08 didn't have a nice ring to it though
), would've been cool to play with him. Instead I got McCloskey, who wasn't half bad. haha
Seems like a nice fellow, good to have some Toledo guys finally branch out and do well in D-I.

Stalker? I held a pen over a map of Ohio and dropped it. The pen landed on Westerville.

Fremont and Sandusky, while still being NW Ohio, are hardly Toledo area.

haha very true, those 2005 and 2006 games were tough, but I was born in Fremont (my mother is a Fahrbach) so I can't hate too much. Nice school with great people.
Still though, as far as Toledo goes, too many kids don't end up going D-I or doing well there. Central, St. John's, and Whitmer produce too much talent to not send plenty of guys to D-I. Hayes, Sanzenbacher, and Mewhort are hopefully just the start of big things.

Rogers has an OSU commit this year, DerJuan Gambrell. Drushawn Humphrey was a freakish athlete from Rogers as well a few years ago who was going to OSU but died while playing a pick up basketball game due to an enlarged heart. Fred Davis is doing alright in the NFL also.

Coach Rios does harness Toledo's talent as well as anyone, my faults for excluding him.

Libbey pride! hahahah
It was weird bringing my players into the weight room over the summer, and this tall lanky kid walks by and starts talking to them all. Being that he wasn't a part of the team, and we would get hoodlums walking into practice every now and then, I say "Hey bud, what's your name? Do you go to Libbey?" He just sorta smiled and said "William Buford...I can be here right?" hahah I was like "Uhhhhh, yeah. I don't really have a problem with that I guess. Go Bucks."

I believe another CCHS grad, Brad Rogers, is playing at Iowa, along with Andrew Donnal from Anthony Wayne.
btw, sj, you mentioned "your players"..are you coaching a local team in Toledo during the summer? if so, where at?

Eric Page isn't doing to bad at Toledo. Top-10 in the nation receiving yards and receptions as a sophomore

I ran track against Dane in hs and he seemed like a good kid. Kevin koger isn't doing too shabby up at Michigan either. Eric page I played in hs and for how small he was he was a tank and hard to bring down

After Perrysburg's docs told me "you're one good hit away from some serious neck injuries. We can't clear you to play, and you should probably never again," I opted to not walk-on at Toledo (two kids from Stritch have recently and don't mind it) and coach. Stritch's coach got fired (well, actually arrested on felonies
We actually did alright. I was the defensive coordinator and we lost to St. John's 0-14 (with one first down on our part haha), Start 6-14, Bowsher 0-6, Waite 0-6, St. Francis 28-14 (they scored THREE defensive touchdowns hahah). Needless to say, our offense wasn't something to admire, I think we had 200 yards on the season. Libbey, much to my surprise, was an extremely enjoyable place with plenty of great people. They offered me the varsity defensive the next season, but 1) I transferred to Ohio State, and 2) Toledo Public schools axed the school.
Anyhow, I guess you can count my buddy Hank Taylor from Stritch/Anthony Wayne who is playing at Portland State. It's technically D-I.
