We can agree to disagree, but it's hard to imagine Brandon Jennings not improving his marketability with one year of college.

I don't really care about academic scholarships, they are irrelevant to the discussion.
The point is, an athletic scholarship is a good deal, anyway you slice it. Stop bitching for more.

It's not irrelevant by any means. Those students who are on academic scholarship can still work a job.

Most of these students have their entire education paid for them...they dont deserve anything more. I would hope no D1 athletes think the universities need to give them more than they already do.

Go tell Harrison Barnes that instead of playing in the NBA this year and making $3 million a year, that his tuition of $30,000 is more than enough.

For what the university would provide to him it would be enough. If Mr. Barnes feels he has greater value and could receive the compensation for that value he should go try and get it . He can try and take money instead of an education if he chooses.
We all have decisions to make. The NCAA has made a decision to keep athletes true amateurs and some athletes have said no thank you.

Playing in the NBA is not an option for him, so really he cant be making 3 million dollars this year. If he really wanted money that bad he could go overseas. Instead hes going to prep for the NBA at a good school, and getting it all paid for except for petty things he might need for class(that he probably wont go to that often) and personal expenses. I feel reallllly bad for him....only not really

An ROTC scholarship includes $300-500/month "laundry money". An athlete has dirty clothes, why can't their athletic scholarships include $500/month to wash their clothes?
One of my daughter's many scholarships was for being the "ugliest" bartender at Ohio U. Ugly = best looking. Athletes, get out there and tend bar, bus or wait tables, smile, be friendly, talk intelligently, dress neatly and get a little pocket money.
The question is, if you are too "poor and underprivileged" to pay a parking ticket how can you afford the car, gas and insurance? Live in a dorm(athletic) and walk or ride a bicycle. Or are you too important?

Barnes could play overseas this year and easily make 3 million.

Some athletes do. I work with a football player, a cheerleader, and a swimmer.

FYI, they weren't saying paying the parking TICKETS, they were saying they have to pay the parking FEES. Nearly all college charge students in order to get a parking pass to park on campus.

ROTC members have to wear their uniforms all the time and they are inspected when wearing them, so they have to be cleaned regularly. An athletes wardrobe is not being inspected everyday and the only items of clothing they have that need cleaned regularly are being cleaned for them by the equipment staff.

The OP was wrong when he said parking tickets. The article talked about parking fees, like a parking pass that nearly ever college in America charges for. No school would ever pay an athletes parking tickets. The point I was making earlier is that he wouldn't hurt his brand by going overseas. He plays well in his one year of college and then signs with Nike for $3 million a year. If he goes overseas he signs his endorsement deal for $200,000 a year.
