Of course in this situation the kicker has to be a groza semi finalist...juts michigans luck. Drive should of stalled about the 45 yard line without that bullshit late hit call

Michigan turns the ball over on downs and it looks like Penn State will defeat the Wolverines

Penn State busts out the fake field goal to pick up a first down.

Robinson with another solid game, too bad nobody else decided to show up.
Including the entire defense.

I truly don't think this is Rich Rod's fault. He has done his job and what he said he would do with his offensive system. You can't argue with these numbers. I really don't know what to say about the Defense.
Would we have been any better tonight if Martin was healthy?

He is the Head Coach, so yes it is his fault. Maybe he would accept a demotion to OC and they can bring in a defensive minded head coach.

Can next years "Michigan is back" circle jerk be postponed until after they beat a decent team? A few weeks ago people wanted them in the top 25, now they lose to a very shitty Penn state team...

It's not like Michigan is some offensive juggernaut in conference play. The gimmick, up tempo offense puts up a lot of yards, but they are 4th in the Big Ten in scoring in conference games, and they still have to play 3 of the top 4 defenses in the conference. After playing Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ohio State, they will probably finish middle of the pack in scoring in the conference. The fast paced offense allows Michigan to score a few extra points per game, but it also leaves their defense, which is bad enough when it isn't tired, out on the field against physical offenses.

Agree 100%, reminds me a bit of discussions a few years ago why everyone doesn't adopt the "Mike Leach Texas Tech" offense. Having watched them (TT, not Michigan) play a couple times in person, it is obvious that the style of play puts a lot of pressure on the defense. The game is longer, there are more plays to defend against, etc. There's something to having a strong running game that can eat the clock and shorten the game.

Michigan does have a strong running game though? Or were you still refering to TT?

Most michigan posters on here had them at 7-5 or 8-4...idk who was proclaiming they were back and gonna win the big ten title or whateverthat_guy;539190 wrote:Can next years "Michigan is back" circle jerk be postponed until after they beat a decent team? The bad part is if they could put together an average defense they could be a force the next year or 2, in the Big 10 and beyond. but I just don't see it happening. The defense has seemed to get WORSE over the last 3 years.

I will say in Greg Robinson's defense, he was brought in as DC and forced to use the coaches already in place and forced to use the scheme RR wanted. I still wonder how much of it is really on GRob.

Great point. On top of that..how many games have they had to play catch up late, thus the defenses are playing prevent? They have racked up quite a few yards/points late in games.
