dwccrew,
The libertarian in me agrees 100% with your statement regarding the "locals" being responsible for their own finances, and I certainly agree they have a right to gamble away every penny they own. In a perfect world/government I see no problem with that issue. However, in reality many of those same "locals" who gambled away their financial resources then turn to the multitude of government handout programs that you and I are forced to support through our taxes. So in the end the "locals" qualify for the proverbial "have their cake and eat it too."

I understand your point and, to a degree, I agree with you. I am very much against social entitlement programs. As you said though, we don't have a perfect world or government.

I feel the people have spoken and they want casino gambling. Let them have it and tax it.

One of these days I am going to have to get someone to show me how to quote another's post. I have tried many times without success...I hate technology!

dwccrew,
Again it is my turn to agree with you. The people have spoken as is their right. I felt all along that Issue 3 would pass this time, and as I stated in an earlier post, I am not opposed to casino gambling on any kind of high moral ground. My opposition is/was based upon other previously stated reasons and beliefs. I would continue to vote against casino gambling despite the fact that I am quite certain that I will actually visit the casinos on occassion once they are built. Talk about an oxymoron, eh?

you can go there to look for poor people about how they should not be there because if they lose its going to cost you.

Issue 1 was a bad thing to pass at this time. The idea of compensating vets is fine... the idea of compensating vets with money that isn't there is absurd. The veterans (and the rest of the state) will be giving that money right back to the state via increased fees on various services.

we can afford $20 a person to reward those who put their lives on the line to defend us. It was given to the veterans of our earlier wars.

The money was actually there in some capacity back then. This time it's money that the state doesn't have. When it's all said and done, the state will basically just be paying themselves in the end, as I said.
