Reds will hopefully decline his option which would cost $1m. It's $4m to bring him back. Janish is his equal offensively but far, far superior defensively.

Who the opening day starter is in 2011, just like in 2010, is irrelevant.

I love Carl Crawford.

Paul Janish will not be the main SS with Dusty Baker at the helm. Maybe go get a Royce Clayton or Alfredo Griffin or something.

Correct. But I'd bet my house that it's Arroyo.

Alfredo was quite the SS back when Dusty was towards the end of his career.

Alfredo could play SS and bat 8th in case he couldn't make it through the game Dusty wouldn't have to insert Paul freaking Janish into the top portion of the lineup.

I also believe Arroyo will be the opening day starter next year, and the Reds have a good problem as far as pitching goes. I think the main upgrade needs to come in LF, love Jonny, but he was basically ineffective for the last half of the season. I hope Bruce comes back hitting the ball like he did over the last couple months, he could be a 40 HR guy protecting Votto.

How bout Jayson Werth in LF for the Reds? He is going to be a free agent.

I would not be opposed to that.

Definitely wouldn't mind Werth, as he and Crawford are the 2 best OF free agents, unfortunately Werth is a Boras client, so that could be a bad thing.

I'd love to have Werth/Crawford. But I don't see them outbidding any of the big market teams

Anyone expect to get Chapman over the Sox, Dodgers, Yankees and Cubs?

Seriously.......a top of the order guy who is fast, black, still in his prime and awesome....Carl Crawford could be that rare player Dusty and Reds fans like equally......not sure whether or not he wails for a HR at 14 out of every 15 first pitches....but I'm sure Dusty could teach him that.......I mean he is the 4 time manager of the year.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and someone proposed that the Reds should look at making a trade in the division with the Pirates to get McCutchen. I agree with the guys thoughts that that would help solve leadoff issues and increase your speed on the base paths. What are your thoughts on this, realistic or unrealistic?

McCutchen is a real nice player but no way that's happening. If it did happen, I'd be pretty happy about that. McCutchen in LF, Stubbs in CF, and Bruce in RF and you instantly have one of the most athletic, fastest, and best defensive outfields in baseball.

....wouldn't be as fast, athletic or defensive as if they obtained Crawford

I think McCutchen would fit right into how Dusty has guys hitting...he can definately wail away with many of the current Reds. McCutchen definately has many great abilities....but career-wise he would excel as a player far more under other managers.

He certainly fits all the molds Dusty desires.

I can't imagine Pittsburgh trading McCutchen. The fanbase would burn down PNC Park. He is one of the young stars they have finally developed, the last thing fans want to see is another good player dealt for "potential"

Laughable. Pirates have McCutchen through 2015, so they have no reason to trade him. Whoever proposed that's the sort of person who buys EA sports games, makes all sorts of crazy trades and legit thinks they'd make a great GM.

Yeah, But the Pirates operate their organization like a person who plays EA sports games.....

I'll give you that. But McCutchen is still cheap, so there's no way they'll get rid of him now. If this was 2014 when he's potentially close to breaking the bank (if he continues to improve), I wouldn't be surprised...but when they have him under lock-and-key cheap, I can't see it.

If Cincy wants "help" or something, we'll give 'em Ronnie Cedeno for a mid-level prospect or something to give them more SS depth.
