Let me Start by saying I'm a huge Bengals fan.

After this season if the Bengals cut Palmer they save something like 60 mil. The Bengals should have a good enough draft spot to land either Luck, Mallett, or Locker in the draft. The last draft board I saw has Luck (1st overall) Locker (12th) and Mallett (18th). Palmer has never really recovered from the hit in the playoffs. His accuracy is gone and he seems to have happy feet in the pocket. Maybe the Bengals should sign someone to get them through a season or so until they can develop a rookie QB. What does everyone else think.

That is a tough one since it appears he will never be the QB he was after that cheapshot in that playoff game. I would probably say no, but with that much money involved...I wouldn't be surprised at all.

He's due to make 12 million next season. Unless he does something dramatic this year he wont be back.

I'd trade him first and try and get something for him. A team like Arizona or SF may be interested considering what they have to work with.

Oh...gotcha. It was, but not really a big deal...that shit happens all the time. This one just messed up the QB. I hear stories of the old linebackers from the 70s and this type of stuff doesn't even compare.

I'd say no, he'd be overpaid, but he can be serviceable and serve as a mentor a young QB they get in next spring's draft. It would be great if he would re-negotiate his contract, but with the cluster$&%^ coming up next year with the league contract that probaly won't happen. Before I saw Jay Cutler get hurt I would have said the Bengals have by far the worst back-up QB's in the league - watching Collins and the other dude I think they are tied. At least Palmer is better than any of them. If they can get a serviceable free agent (Pennington? Rosenfels?) that might be the way to go, but the unfortuate reality is that the Bengals might have to eat his salary and do what they can for the next couple of years.

First off Bob Bratkowski needs to be fired. His play calling has you throwing the remote at the TV and I don't feel like the Bengals offense has been what it could be since 2005, or 2006 even. I'd love to see the Bengals keep Marvin and Mike Zimmer and bring in a new offensive coordinator and a new QB. I've been trying to hold onto hope for Carson for years, but I just don't think his arm strength is what it was, and I think he has a tendancy to overthink things on the field. Honestly I think the problem isn't really the knee, but everyone forgets he had elbow problems a few years ago. Anymore it seems like his problems come from mental errors, like the pick six yesterday. I still think Carson could go to another team and be a good QB, but with being paid so much he is wearing out his time in Cincinnati.

And does anyone else think his situation is very familiar to that of Drew Bledsoe? It just hit me now, but both seem to be QBs that should have been better than they were, even though they usually had fairly good stats.

No Palmer should not be cut. I'm all for trying to find somebody else, but I feel like they need to go with the Kevin Kolb approach. Draft somebody, keep the old guy starting while the young guy learns, and then once the young guy is ready you dump the old guy

They won't get much of a trade for Palmer at this point. Everyone can see what he has and hasn't done the past couple of seasons.

I am sure they will, but teams aren't going to give much if they think you will release him anyway. Although, I think you got to pretty much take what you can get even if it is only like a mid to late round pick.....better than nothing.

Nobody would take on his contract. He makes a ton of money. The Bengals choices over the next year or two are: A) hope he returns to form or can at least play caretaker of the offense B) release him, take a huge hit, and play his younger brother who has no business being on a NFL roster.

I think it is pretty clear as to what they are going to do in the short term

I don't know if there is a guy coming out of this draft that I am so enamored with. There are no Sam Bradford's coming out in this draft. That being said, your suggestion makes the most sense.

Also, fire Bratkowski. He has been a program for a very long time and if not anything else, a shakeup is in order.

Let's put it this way, there probably won't be anybody left by the time the Bengals draft. I see a 7-9, 8-8 season on the horizon. Maybe Jake Locker drops a bit?

I do like Andrew Luck a lot though. Mallett also looks like he could be a nice pro prospect.

A fair point, but let's look at who is in the market for a QB:

Buffalo - Mr. Luck might as already start his negotiations with the Bills
Oakland - have already been burned by a high draft pick with JaBustus
Minnesota - maybe depending on the Favre factor
Seattle - needs a successor to Hasselbeck

Everyone else either has a steady QB or a young QB in waiting (KC, SF and Jax are arguable, and the Skins have an aging QB but should last a few years).

If the Bengals want one of the big 3 (Luck, Locker, Mallett), I think they can pull it off pretty easily.

You failed to mention Carolina. Cowher will get the best qb available in next years draft. Count on it.
