This is just freaking awesome.

"The film stars Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Bridges with the story centering on a tough U.S. Marshal that helps a stubborn young woman track down her father’s murderer. This is an adaptation of the 1968 novel and a remake of the 1969 film starring John Wayne. True Grit is slated to release on Christmas."

Has potential. But I fear it will suck.

looks like it definitely has the potential. just not really sold on the whole idea of the girl as the main character.

You don't remake a John Wayne movie. Period.

Hard to think that it won't be at least decent with Coen Brothers behind it.

I am not optimistic about this. I'll probably see it once it comes out on DVD, but I kinda agree that you can't remake a John Wayne movie.

It won't be a remake per say, it translates the book in a different way.
"I think it's much funnier than the movie was so I think, unfortunately, they lost a lot of humour in both the situations and in her voice. It also ends differently than the movie did. You see the main character -- the little girl -- 25 years later when she's an adult."

He continued: "Another way in which it's a little bit different from the movie -- and maybe this is just because of the time the movie was made -- is that it's a lot tougher and more violent than the movie reflects. Which is part of what's interesting about it."

The Coen Brothers are amazing film makers and I thought the preview looked awesome. I will see this when it comes out. I was a big fan of No Country for Old Men, The Big Lebowski, O' Brother Where Art Thou, Raising Arizona and Fargo. With the Coen brothers Behind it unless the little girl blows the movies gonna be good.

I am looking forward to it.

I really like the Coen Brothers also. I just watch The Big Lebowski again 2 weeks ago. I own No Country For Old Men, Fargo, and O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

Josh Brolin has become one of my favorite actors also.

I am rooting for this films success. I am wanting the 'western' movie genre to make a comeback.

Based on the Coen Brother's track record, I'd say there is little to no chance that this movie will suck (of their 14 movies, I don't consider any of them to be terrible) and a very good chance of it being great. They've had 5 movies that I consider great (O' Brother, Miller's Crossing, Fargo, No Country & Lebowski).

They are one of very few directors that I'll see any movie they make in the theater, regardless of what it's about or who's in it. Additionally the trailer looks awesome...

I completely agree 100%!

Counting No Country For Old Men, Appaloosa, and also 310 To Yuma, there's been some very good "western" movies recently. There's always room for Tombstone in there also, a bit older but still very little "westerns" in the last 15+ years -- that I can think of.

For the love of god, watch "The Proposition".

Best western I've seen recently.

I thought appalsoosa was better than 310 to yuma. However didn't think either of them were that great. I am excited for true grit, the one movie this year that will make me go to the theater to watch it.
