This is the first mock draft I have run across. I find it interesting for a few reason, one being who he has picking 32nd. Second how the collective bargaining agreement effects the draft. Its also handy to let me know who some of the top players are for the season to keep an eye on.
2011 NFL Mock Draft, Version 1.0 22nd September, 2010 - 10:15 am Jeff Risdon/RealGM -
* Updated 9.22.10
This is insanely premature, but I get at least 10 emails a week asking for an updated mock draft, so here is my attempt to oblige.
A few notes:
-- Because of the threat of a lockout, it’s very hard to say whether underclassmen will pour into this draft or stay in school and wait it out. My guess, and I’m basing this on conversations with some agents and some NFL business types, is that they will try to get into this draft in hopes of being grandfathered into whatever the new CBA requirements for free agency might be.
-- Most of the anticipated teams in the top half of the draft have invested recent high draft picks in QBs. That means the law of supply and demand will almost certainly lower the value of the QBs in the draft, and this mock reflects that thought.
-- The draft order is based on my pure speculation of final records after just the first two weeks of the NFL season. It will change, probably dramatically, and this order is technically impossible because several teams will make the playoffs despite lesser records than teams slotted after them here. Try and look past that.
--Normally, I include the disclaimer that this is not necessarily what I would do with the given picks, but because it’s very early this one has more personal influence in the guessing process than my typical mocks.

I would be pissed if we passed on Luck for a DE. Holmgren is supposedly a groomer of QB's but eventually you HAVE to bite the bullet and take your franchise QB with a high pick. He can only find gold in the late rounds every so often.

+1, no thanks. Courtney Brown and Gerrard Warren were enough for me. Give me a QB. I am ready to bite the bullett. QB play is the #1 thing that has held us down.

I'm surprised to see him having the 49ers take a QB and that QB be Ponder. I think the 49ers would take Locker if he was available there if they were going after a QB I'd wait to see how Smith does this year if he continues to be decent then I think they need to get a CB/LB
I agree that the Browns shouldnt draft Heyward 2nd overall 1 because the Browns really need a QB and 2 I just don't think Heyward has been that great to warrant being the 2nd overall pick(waits for all the OSU people to come bash me).
And I like the Cowboys pick of a Tackle since its the obvious weakness of the team.

Heyward is very good, but he isnt the elite type of D-End that warrants the #2 pick. Gotta go QB if Luck is available when they pick this year.

Not possible for the AFC to have the last two picks without a trade being involved. I realize he says to look past the order, but at least put the two teams you think are going to make the Super Bowl in the final two slots.

Yeah I noticed that too they also have 4 of the last 5 which I also believe isnt possible without a trade being done.

I love me some Cameron Heyward, but he's not a Mario Williams, Javon Kearse, Juluis Peppers, Dwight Freeney type elite end.

If I am number 2 and I am picking defense. I will take Kerrigan over Heyward, but I would take Peterson over both.

Yeah, the bottom 4 picks are the final 4 teams. Super Bowl winner is 32, loser is 31, best record of championship round loser is 30, and worst record is 29. Pick before that are base purely on record so the order could be anything.

LOL at Cleveland. This was supposed to be their year. Now after only 2 weeks they're talking who they will pick with the 2nd overall pick. Losing breeds losing. hahahaaaaa

Goodell needs to have a sitdown with Lerner and advise him if they do not become more competitive the team will be moved.

LOL....you're really slipping. No one, anywhere, thought that this would be Cleveland's year. Honestly, you have been trolling long enough that one would think you would be good at it by now. I love Heyward and think he will be a good pro, but I don't think he's deserving of that high of a draft choice. I just don't see him as an impact player in the mold of a Mario Williams or Glenn Dorsey.

Glenn Dorsey took a while to adjust and most Dline prospect do. I'm not sure thats the direction this team needs to head in, as our offense has been atrocious the past few seasons and most seasons other than 2007. We need a QB, a good young QB to develop.

You want me to go back and search the posts after Holmgren was hired. Playoffs baby Playoffs. One of your fans even had the balls to make a bet with me about who wins more games. I made that bet with confidence even though our qb would be out 6 weeks at the time. FAIL.

Yeah, go back and find it. I want to see that post(s) because only a delusional homer would have thought this team would turn things around in a year. I had them at about 7 wins which is looking way too optimistic right now.

BR I remember there were about 3-5 posters that I can remember who thought with Holmgren the Browns had a legit shot at making the playoffs this year. Then there were some others who thought in about 2-5 years they Browns would make the playoffs/super bowl(which really isnt that crazy to think). I'm not gonna go look it up cause I really don't give a shit but Im sure Capone will haha.
But your right for the most part a lot of the Browns fan had them at 7 or 8 wins.

You mean we can't have a Pittsburgh-Indy Super Bowl?!?? And would it be Pittsburgh or Indy who beats the Saints in the NFC Championship?

Yes, Capone move a team that has better attendance at their home stadium than your beloved Steelers.

It is interesting to me that some browns fans are saying draft the qb of the future if we have a top five pick next April. Are you discounting McCoy's ability before he even gets his first NFL snap? I just find that curious, because of how high on McCoy a lot of fans were when they drafted him, especially coming into the Holgrem system.
Did I miss something? Granted I didn't watch him play in pre-season, but do you really want yet another promising rookie qb when there are so many other holes on the team to fill?
