Looks good, a little slow, but they have to lay the foundation before we get into it. The ending let us know that it's going to be sweet.

Don't have HBO, but I have been reading up on it and it sound like something I would really like. I guess I'll just have to wait until it comes out on DVD or gets re-run on A&E like they did with the Sopranos.

No way a Martin Scorcese show about Prohibition-era gangsters was going to be anything less than stellar.

I had read that the 1st episode was by far the slowest of the season, but as far as pilots go, that was pretty fast paced.

"Cut it with the cowboy shit, it's distracting," is the line to beat of the season thus far.

Pretty solid show for the first one. I expect much more as the show progresses, but I'll surely be tuned in every Sunday night.

I thought it was great for a pilot, but will need to pick up to sustain greatness (which I have little doubts it will).

I love the young Al Capone character. HE and Jimmy were pretty big badasses in episode 1.

No, it wasn't Capone.

I'm talking about the fat mexican guy with the mustache. He was shot in the back of the head and the blood splattered all over the camera.

Unless I'm tinking of a completely different scene then yeah, Al Capone killed him because he was the current boss in Chicago, and he didn't want to get in the bootlegging business. Capone disagreed, as was implied in the conversation he had with Jimmy when they first met.

You're talking about the guy in the restaurant, who was playing music, and got shot in the back of the head right?

Yeah I think? I just didn't think that was Capone..Capone's chubby, this guy was skinny.

Yeah the guy that shot the restaurant guy was tall and skinny. Capone is the guy that stole the alcohol after gunning everyone down right? If so the guy in the restaurant was different.

Capone was with Jimmy and stole the alcohol. I dont think he shot the guy in the restaurant. Its on again at 11pm, so I will probably watch it again towards the end to see.

From another board:

"He was James "Big Jim" Colosimo, boss of Al Capone.
My guess is Rothstein got him killed."

From Wiki
When prohibition went into effect in 1920, Torrio pushed for the gang to enter into bootlegging, but Colosimo refused. In May 1920, Colosimo went out of town to marry his second wife, Dale Winter (he had deserted his first wife). After Colosimo returned to Chicago a week later, Torrio called him and let him know about a shipment arriving at his cafe. When Colosimo appeared at the cafe to wait for its delivery, he was shot and killed. The initial murder suspect was his new wife Dale, but no one was ever arrested for the murder. It was widely believed that Torrio ordered Colosimo's killing so that the gang could enter the lucrative bootlegging business. Torrio reportedly brought in New York colleague, Frankie Yale, to murder Colosimo. Al Capone has also been suspected as Colosimo's assassin.[1]
Colosimo was the first to organize disparate parts of Chicago's crime scene. After his death, his gang was controlled first by John Torrio and then Al Capone. It would become the infamous Chicago Outfit.[1]

Except remember Boardwalk Empire isn't all correct. They have embellished much of what really happened, including the characters. That's what I got out of the preview stuff anyway.

Nevermind, I was wrong. They were cutting back from Capone driving the liquor to Chicago.

They didn't introduce the character who killed Big Jim, but it was Frankie Yale. I'm sure he'll be introduced soon though, he was a pretty major player in real life.

Torrio is now the Chicago boss, and Capone and Yale are his #2's. There's debate over whether Capone or Yale pulled the trigger on Big Jim, but it was under Torrio's orders.

edit: I see someone already posted something similar.

Im in the middle of rewatching it, they call him by name Colosimo and Capone tells Jimmy that Colosimo has no interest in the bootlegging business because he thinks there is plenty of money to be made in whore houses.
