Some nice low topped supercells today. Looks like damage reports coming in from Delaware, Franklin, Fairfield, Pickaway, Hocking counties etc....

we had a tornado warning here in granville (licking co) for a half hour, the storm came, but it was nothing more than a lottttt of rain and some lightning...no hail, was overly windy for a storm, no branches down on campus at least and never lost power...kind of anticlimatic

I almost blew away on the 5th floor of my apartment building here in Athens!

Nice living in extreme southern Ohio, except for the fact that it sucks and there is nothing to do. It seems like most of the storms always either pass us to the north or are south of us.

Storm wasn't too bad in Newark but we did have quarter sized hail for a couple of minutes.

I guess some pretty nasty damage in The Plains. Trailers blown over and houses gone.

Tornado touched down in Wooster earlier this evening. Lots of damage south of town. Emergency crews are not allowing people out to see the damage.

Athens City schools are closed tomorrow. Significant damage to the high school. The Plains is an absolute wreck. trailers scattered everywhere. Businesses are demolished. Pretty serious stuff.

My wife works in The Plains. She works right by McDonalds. She thinks her building is still standing, but the rest of the town is destroyed.

those cells moved through Northwestern Pennsylvania but we came out ok

I took a short trip to Baltimore and saw some trees down as well as some debris. I saw something can't confirm a tornado though.

Athens HS had 2 AC units ripped off the roof, some other roof damage.

Their football field is FUCKED. Scoreboard is on the 20 yard line, half the light standards are down. Press box smashed through the concession stand and some cars, visitors stands didn't fare too well either. There was a soccer game, but fortunately most had evacuated up to the school. Only a few injuries. They'll be playing elsewhere the rest of the year.

In Athens, AutoTech Service Center (out on E. State past Walmart, by the 50/32 exit) was FLATTENED.
Here's what my meteorologist friends said about the damage out there:

It was very heavily damaged, but not wiped clean as the SPC report made it out to be. Looking at the damage and the way the debris was blown around, the winds at this location were very, very strong. However, all the debris was laid out in a west to east fashion that is typical of a downburst/microburst. The only evidence that there may of been a tornado was the debris caught on both sides of the fence

I'm no longer in Athens, but I've not yet seen any tornado pictures from anyone, just funnel clouds. Same goes for the OU meteorology majors I talked to. Seems like the Plains one has a damn good shot at being a tornado though. A microburst could do that too, but we shall see what the NWS says tomorrow.

Only reason I'd say they were tornadoes that the storm didn't collapse and usually after a microburst that signals a storms end. These storms continued into WVA with apparent tornadoes.

With the Athens one, it would have been tornadic from Nelsonville to the Plains, then as it died gone out as a microburst by Athens. There was a funnel over Athens though, but it was way up in the sky.

I wasn't around to see the radar (was at work)... did the storm stay strong all the way through, or did it perhaps cycle through (die out and have a new one fire off of the end of it)? I know most of the shit was moving due east, and the Meigs OH/Wood and Mason WV stuff is to the south, making me think another one fired along the line off to the south after Athens.

Looks like this to me:
What first came through (Nelsonville, The Plains, Athens) was going east until about Athens.
What issued the second tornado warning for Athens County (Albany) fired off of the back and went into Meigs, moving SE

Both definitely have a nice couplet... the strong winds between Albany and McArthur on the second first grab wrapped up and was what is on the Athens/Meigs line in the second grab. The original Athens one is the one on the OH/WV line.
