The past matters, no doubt. But the fact remains, come November, Ohio State will have another victory over Michigan and that's all that matters to me.

that's because most of your championships used the Flying Wedge as an offensive set. And DickRod is dead set upon bringing it back in a modified form today.

Why would a Michigan fan call an OSU fan a troll or rag on them for bringing up the past? The only instance i can think of would be one like this....where you selectively choose what part of history to include

I always thought the modern era was a rolling 25 year period.
I do understand, however, why the writer defined the football modern era as beginning in 1946.

You're confusing "current era" with "modern era."

Me? I never selected anything. Your previous post acted like UM and OSU fans were different and how they act. Newsflash....they are the same. Personally....I could give a shit about ethers history
.I only can account for what happens in the current and bottom line....we own Michigan.

All those teams have a huge claim to this title...and I would most likely put OSU 3rd or 4th on this list
LMAO...not that its difficult to ever discredit your posts....but Miami was completely irrelevant prior to 1980. Thus the reason they are NOT even in the top 10. You want to argue the top 5 or so...so be it. But to put Miami in that discussion is laughable you look at the complete era.

Ha. Whats comical about this, is that this article is about the present as well as history. And your lucky, as a UM fan, it includes the past or UM wouldn't even be mentioned. Again, if you took time to read the article, it is about the modern era...1946 to PRESENT. Wow...is it that difficult to click a link and read?

As a Buckeye fan, I feel pretty cool about this.
Of all the great programs that are out there, that someone chose OSU #1 makes me happy

This sounds about right. I remembering listening to the radio a couple weeks ago and they made a very valid point about the Ohio State program. Most major problems had some kind of drop-off in their time. USC and Oklahoma in the 90s, Nebraska in the 2000s, etc. Ohio State never really had that. Sure they might have had a year where they went 6-6 or something, but never consistently on a year to year basis.

I like OSU and all, but there is no way you can just define cut off dates like that. It's not like the rules suddenly changed in 46.
If you're going to pick a cut off date then it should be 1906, when the forward pass was legalized...that would absolutly usher in a new "era".
Or in 51 when OL were deemed ineligible to receive a pass.
Just cause the war ended doesn't mean a thing as far as the rules of the game.

I agree with the year but disagree with the assessment. Oklahoma should be #1, I think they did not credit NCs enough and rewarded consistency too much.

this poll absolutely belongs to the Domers...ND owns this thing hands-down...modern-era, current era, Gipper era, and future eras.

I agree. And as for me, I choose the years 2003 until 2007. LSU was the bestManO'War;488212 wrote:I like OSU and all, but there is no way you can just define cut off dates like that. It's not like the rules suddenly changed in 46.

I think the reason that the year after the war ended was considered is because, as a poster earlier suggested, that is when many programs were on an even playing field. Programs were more established that may not have been in the 1900's. I also could say that an era started when blacks were allowed to participate in collegiate sports or freshmen were allowed to compete at the varisty level.
It is a completely subjective piece, not sure why people are getting bent out of shape over it. The only thing I can think of is jealousy or a shear hatred of Ohio State. If someone posted something similar about another team, I have no doubt there would be Ohio State fans coming on and saying the same thing people are on this thread, but me personally, I couldn't care less. All that matters to me is that Ohio State wins the Big 10, goes unbeaten this season and plays in the BCS title game and wins it. The past is the past, it's nice to look at, but it really means shit at this point. I live in the here and now and right now, Ohio State is one of the top programs in the country.
