Never Forget

1st period Religion class, junior year in high school. 2nd period we had to review for a test, teacher turned off the tv for an hour, didn't see the towers fall live. Went home and was glued to the tv in a state of total disbelief and shear amazement at what had happened. Late in the night I took a shower and cried for the first time about what had happened.

Where were you?

At home working got an instant message, "what the hell is going on?".

I turned on the television in my office and didn't leave the television for many days.

Was at home and recieved many phone calls from friends and relatives making sure I was home(I travel for my job).
We had a coworker in the air at the time from Atlanta to Houston. When he landed the pilot told the passengers to call home and let everyone know they were OK. He had no idea what was going on.

I really hate today. It's always so sad to think about what happened 9 years ago. There are things from yesterday I don't remember as vividly as 9/11/01.

I woke up late and was taking my time going to school. I was at home watching Fox News and saw the second plane hit. I then went to school. It was disbelief and never really sank in as to what happened for a couple days.

3rd period study hall my jr. year is when word started to spread and we went off to different classes to watch the tv's.
I took some time yesterday and talked to my 3rd grade class about why 9/11 is important and what happened. I didn't want to go into much in depth detail with them at school, so I let them look through a book I had on it with a lot of pictures, and told them to ask their parents about it if they wanted more in details. Hard to believe only 2 of my students were born before that happened...doesn't seem like that long ago.

This day is like a carbon copy. Sunny and cool just a beautiful morning until that went down.

Changing classes as a sophomore. Friend mentioned something hit the WTC. Sad thing is, we didn't have tvs in school that day, cable was being switched or something, so we listened on the radio. I had a free lunch, so I drove home and saw the images for the first time. I literally sat there in amazement the next few hours.

Stopped by Damon's in Steubenville to watch the replays for lunch. On road in sales all day, so was listening to the radio from the minute it happened.

Just woke up from working midnight and every channel (maybe even espn) has coverage. One of the sickest feelings in my stomach ever. NEVER FORGET !!!

In my fourth grade science class doing a lab. We weren't allowed to go outside for recess, but none of us knew why until that moment. I remember getting out of school early and as a young kid, I wanted to find Bin Laden and make him pay.

Got up for class and turned on the tv. Saw the 2nd plane hit, went to class and watched tv there until they announced that all classes were canceled for the day.

I lived in Northern VA at the time. I was in 8th grade, and I remember kids getting called to the office to go home, and I was wondering why they were going home. While walking in between periods, one of my friend asks if I heard about the pentagon being bombed. My dad was in the military at this time (Boiling Air Force Base), and always had meetings at the pentagon, so I was in immediate panic as soon as I heard the news. I ran to the front office, and asked to use the phone to call home. They tried to give me some bullshit excuse why I couldn't use the phone, then I just yelled at them "my dad works at the pentagon!" and they hand me the phone. I called home and my mom said everything was fine.

I didn't learn until a few weeks later, but my dad actually had a meeting at the pentagon that day, but thankfully it was canceled.

I always find the slogan 'never forget' kind of pointless in a way. Like anyone ever could.
Today is the day why countless people I know are over in the Middle East..Come home safe guys, always miss you..

I have no problem for HS kids to watch. It was history right in front of them. I don't think the younger kids need to see and feel the emotions that were happening.

Third grade, with my best friend. It was a perfect day outside and it was his birthday. We were all excited to go outside and celebrate his birthday but then we weren't allowed to go outside for recess. None of us could figure out why. It was perfect out. We went back to the classroom and our teacher was real quiet and we knew something was wrong but we still didn't know what. She didn't tell us what had happened she just said something bad had happened. My friend was so mad he almost started crying because we couldn't go outside for recess. I remember my mom picking me up early that day and telling me that there was a rumor about some crazy person running around town. She checked our doors and then we went inside. She then told me what had happened and for the next few days other than school all we did was watch the coverage.

Was junior in HS during my free period in the library. Watched TV the rest of the day and for a few days after that.

Manager at McDonalds before Fall Quarter started my 2nd year at Ohio State. I had opened the store that morning. I remember customers coming in around 930 asking if we knew about it. Went to the back room and turned on the TV. I vivdly remember having to adjust the bunny ears because it was a basic TV that only got the 4 main stations.

Was in my first period Alegebra II and Trig class. We heard what happened, but our teacher wouldn't let us turn on the TV.

The next period was Honors English. We had a test, and our teacher put on the TV, but turned down the volume so we could take our test. We sat there in silence trying to concentrate on our test until somebody said, "wow, that building just fell." We never did finish that test. The most vivid memory I have of that day is my English teacher walking over and turning the volume up on the TV and then sitting at her desk and crying for the rest of the period.

It was during my sophomore year in college and I can remember clearly sitting in my 8am communications class and looking out the window at how clear and sunny the day was. I remember leaving the class and walking up to my dorm and my roommate was standing outside and said something about it. I went into our teammates room on the 1st floor and watched everything happen for a bit and then we moved to the lobby when the second plane hit. We were all in disbelief. That previous summer I had worked at an airport and I can remember thinking- how could something like this happen? I can remember going to practice that day and our coach was just like- go run if you feel like it. We all went out in just a complete silence with our thoughts and no one said a word for the whole run.

I can remember people rushing to get gas that day and the next because of fear that we would run out. I thought it was odd because that was the furthest from my mind at that time.

I went to a TOOL concert that following Friday and Maynard would not face the crowd (which was not uncommon) and when people started chanting "USA, USA" he screamed at the crowd to "Shut the f up because obviously something was wrong with how we did things if we let something like this happen" I remember just standing there and thinking- he might be right- how could something like this happen without us knowing.

It all seems like a dream now- but in a way it shapes us in ways we cannot even truly comprehend.

2nd Period, Centerburg High School, Mrs. Reilly's junior English class. The assistant principal told everyone to turn on the TVs over the loudspeaker and I was closest, so I turned it on just after the second plane hit.

I knew it was Osama Bin Laden from the second we turned the TV on from an article that Readers Digest had run on him about a year before.



What is very weird to me is that They are now teaching about this in history class in the junior high classes where I teach, but if you think about it, the kids in the 8th grade were 4 years old when it happened. It is just weird to me that high school seniors in a couple of year will only know about this from history books.

Saw it unfold in-person. Will never forget, obviously. RIP to those who died on that horribly sad day.
