Flawless tornado tag execution by the Marlins.

It's one of the "unwritten baseball rules". Similar to walking behind the homeplate area to get to the batter's box and not in front or not running across the mound(see A Roid).

It was a close play and Morgan was trying to score, no need to bean him the next day. Then they bean him again for stealing bases, throw him out if you don't want him to steal. I'm guessing baseball will give Morgan a long suspension for this, the Marlins pitcher better be getting one just as long, maybe even longer for that pathetic fighting form he displayed, dropping his fists to leave his face wide open, what a moron...

He should have definitely slid. Technically by sliding it wouldn't have even been a close play since the catcher had to leave his feet to make the play. And you don't steal bases when you are thoroughly getting your ass kicked. You accept you are pathetic tonight and live to fight another day.

And also, who the fuck was he taunting? 1 of the 15 people at the Marlins game apparently pissed him off severely.

Baseball has too many dumb "unwritten rules". If you hit me, and PUT me on base, I'm gonna make the best of it

Then they will break the unwritten rule of throwing at your head next time. Its like an honor system. Football has similar things like don't go at people's knees without reason and the like. Its not all bad, but yes baseball has quite a few.

Stealing bases to generate a run when your teams DOWN 11 runs and it is still early cannot be frowned upon. No way. Up 11, sure. Down 11, no friggin way. You s'pose to just concede defeat?

So in the 4th inning or whatever you're supposed to just say, well im a speedster and they put me on base with nobody out....I should just accept defeat before the games even half way over?

Eh, we aren't talking about the Yankees here. Its the Nationals. What are the chances they come back from that deficit.

Irrelevant. And they came back quite a bit.

I guess I buy what you are saying. Maybe it should only be after the 7th inning, kinda along the lines of the run spread rule in college. Just accept you suck.

This isn't a very good comparison. One thing could end a players career and the other hurts someones felling. Stealing a base down by 10 runs in the 4th is not a problem (the Rockies just came back from 9 down last week against a good Braves team) The Marlins need to blow the sand out of their vagina. If you don't want him stealing don't put him on base.

Someones spikes go into a guy's leg/knee sliding and that couldn't potentially end a career? Just saying.

On what planet are you supposed to give up in a sport that has absolutely no time limit and hypothetically no lead is insurmountable? Anyone defending this "you don't steal when you're down by so many runs" bullshit is delusional. That goes against the very "never say die" attitude that ballplayers are taught from the time they are playing little league. Fuck, speaking of little league, maybe MLB should institute the mercy rule so the whole league can be a bunch of pussies like the Marlins.

Attendance revenue would certainly take a nosedive if we all took the Marlins approach.

Looks like the MLB didn't take this too lightly...
MLB also issued suspensions to several Marlins players.

Pitcher Chris Volstad has been suspended for six games and fined an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing at Morgan on two occasions and for fighting during the benches-clearing incident; pitcher Alex Sanabia has received a five-game suspension for fighting; first baseman Gaby Sanchez has received a three-game suspension for his aggressive actions and fighting; and pitcher Jose Veras has been fined for his aggressive actions and comments during the incident.

Also, Nationals pitcher Doug Slaten has received a three-game suspension for intentionally throwing a pitch at Sanchez in the bottom of the seventh after a warning had been issued in the sixth inning.

Additionally, Nationals manager Jim Riggleman has been suspended for two games and fined an undisclosed amount, Marlins manager Edwin Rodriguez has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed, and Nationals third base coach Pat Listach has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount.

This makes baseball exciting. I would love to see more fighting. Time to liven up this sport a little.
