I just moved back to the Columbus area and have been seeing their commercials about stations like ESPN and Big Ten Network. Can someone fill me in on the latest?

Tw plays hardball with a network every year or so. Most likely they will reach a deal before the deadline

i switched to at t when they didnt reach a deal with nfl network...its much better than tw...i cant imagine how much business tw would lose if they dont have espn. I have direct tv coming on the the 2nd so i can get the NFL ticket for this year i spent way to much money last year going to a bar every week to watch pittsburgh.

There's no way TW is dropping ESPN. They might not reach a deal, but I'd be willing to bet they've got something temporary already in the works.

It's moreso Time Warner pretending like they actually care about raising rates. They are hardasses for a while, then always come to the original deal.

I for one like what time warner is doing. I for one aint a big fan of nfl network big ten network or anything else you have to pay to watch a game i used to be able to watch for free. thats just me though. Keep giving in to the nfl and all the other networks to make them richer is not alright by me.

Anyone know the facts? From a couple things I read, it seems the hang up is over the fee for ESPN3 (formerly ESPN360) on the web. ESPN wants TW to pay for that as part of its cable package. Up to this point, I haven't had access to ESPN360 online at home because it wasn't available to TW customers. I'm assuming TW is either going to drop all of the ESPNs or they are going to agree to something that gets TW customers access to the web channel.

Is this correct or is there something else to it?

Every other cable company under the sun carries ESPN3, and their rates are the same or cheaper than TWC. If your story is true, ESPN is insisting upon it because they KNOW TWC can afford it.

So here's a link talking about it and a couple of points I found interesting.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-27/time-warner-cable-disney-talks-said-to-focus-on-espn3-com-fees.html

"Disney is seeking a fee of about 10 cents a month per Web customer for ESPN3.com"

"An agreement with Time Warner Cable would add more than 9 million paying customers to the website."

"ESPN is the most expensive national pay-TV channel, costing providers on average $4.08 per subscriber a month, according to researcher SNL Kagan. Time Warner Inc.’s TNT is second at 99 cents."

"ESPN3.com is the first and only site to charge Web-service providers a subscriber-based access fee."

"The cable operator has previously said it doesn’t agree with ESPN3.com’s business model, which requires payment based on the total number of Internet subscribers. Although Time Warner Cable has said it acknowledges the site’s appeal, its Internet customers shouldn’t have to pay for programming they may never watch."

Looks like the ads are being pulled in anticipation, but it isn't necessarily a done deal.

http://www.coshoctontribune.com/article/20100831/NEWS01/8310302/1002/rss01

"The New York Post, citing an unnamed person close to the talks, reported Monday that the companies have an agreement in principle that needs to be reviewed by their respective legal teams."

"Both companies have agreed to pull marketing campaigns they had launched this past summer aimed at persuading public opinion to their side, The Wall Street Journal reported online Sunday. They now expect to reach a deal without "blacking out any TV networks," the paper said, citing unnamed people familiar with the talks."

All depends on who backed down, TWC or Disney.

It looks like the deal isn't set in stone yet, but they are well on their way. Only one reporting a done deal is the NY Post, which is basically a tabloid.

im glad ATT worked for you. I switched from Time Warner to AT&T and the only things that i like are the larger selection of HD channels and NFL Network. Their customer service blows (the main box in the house rarely if ever receives the signal from the remote) and when they sent someone out to fix the problem, they blamed it on my new flat screen HD TV and moved the box five feet to the right. Still doesnt work.

Why would moving the box fix your problem? I have had Att for over a year now and I still like it. It has its ups and downs but it is better that Cable IMO. I am still not used to the channels though and I am paying a little more for it but all in all I am happy with ATT

How many HD channels does ATT offer? Time Warner had a pretty good selection in Columbus when I lived there and recently added a bunch more up in NWO.

I don't like all the posturing and it probably isn't good for TW's business some probably jumped ship. My only complaint is their pos Scientific Atlanta boxes which need replaced about every 8-14 months it seems.

i dont know how moving the box would fix the problem. The tech guy said that my TV must be, and i quote, "Stealing the cable boxes signal". Both TW and ATT have their ups and downs. Im not dissatisfied with their product, just the service.

i had TW come to my house to fix the box 2 times in the first 2 weeks after i got it installed. they are a pos. my first one kept rebooting like 3 times a day and taking up to 30 minutes to do it. the worst part is, they replaced the old one. but then the new one wasnt getting about 75% of the channels i was supposed to get. took like 3 days to get that straightened out.

They all suck, I don't know how anyone can prefer one over the other. It's essentially "pick your poison".

As for the bickering over rates, I think ESPN wanted to renegotiate the subscriber cost (as someone else mentioned) and TWC didn't want to have to raise their rates.

For the most part, TWC is afraid to raise their rates because people will just run to other carriers (WOW, Direct TV, DISH, etc)

^^^^ This.

They all suck. I hate my TW box as much as the next guy but it's the best option I have since I want fast internet and it's the best available in my area.

Got an email today from TW outlining the agreement and changes to services.
There will be no interruption of ESPN or Disney channels, as well as WABC in New York, KABC in Los Angeles, WTVD in Raleigh-Durham-Fayetteville and WTVG in Toledo. They'll stay right here on Time Warner Cable. In fact, our agreement means more networks and services for you, including the following*:

<table width="100%" align="center" border="0" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0"> <tbody> <tr> <td valign="top" width="25" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">Disney Junior - a new 24-hour basic channel for preschool-age children, parents and caregivers launching in 2012.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">ESPN3.com - ESPN's live sports broadband network will be available to all Time Warner Cable subscribers who get ESPN.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">A New ESPN Service - customers will be able to view ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU through broadband and mobile Internet devices.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">ESPN Goal Line - a college football super-highlight channel will be available only to Time Warner Cable&#8217;s Sports Pass customers starting as early as September 4, 2010.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">ESPN Buzzer Beater - a college basketball service similar to ESPN Goal Line, will be available to Time Warner Cable&#8217;s Sports Pass customers for college basketball season.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">Expanded Video On Demand Services - including ABC On Demand, Disney-branded On Demand offerings for kids, local sports content in select markets, plus the subscription Video On Demand service "Disney Family Movies."</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">Start Over and Look Back - featured on a variety of Disney Media Networks content.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px; padding-top: 3px;">ESPN Deportes - will be available to a larger Time Warner Cable footprint.</td></tr> <tr> <td valign="top" align="middle">&#8226;</td> <td style="font-family: arial,verdana,sans serif; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-size: 14px;">ESPN 3D</td></tr></tbody></table>

This all looks pretty good. Of course they left out how much on an increase I will see on my bill...
