Interestingly enough, some months ago (not quite a year), I watched a show on either the History channel or the Discovery channel, cant remember. Anyway, the whole show was about the body language of the Presidents, and they went back as far as Roosevelt. In the end, all the "experts" gave Bush the best leverages. They also said that body language conveys the majority of of what somebody is really saying.
*experts = psychiatrists, profilers, speech coaches and the like

Here's an example: *Note - the pic of Bush that eers has is not the same one talked about here

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0306/02/se.10.html

Still trying to see if i can find the link to the show I saw.

I don't think showing respect in their cultural customs is in any way a sign of submission. If we had our own sign of respect I would expect other world leaders to extend us the same courtesy when they come here.

I found the episode I was looking for on historychannel.com, but all it said was that it was not scheduled to be shown in the next 2 weeks, little good that is! lol

Eers, I know what you're saying. I said "I just wish our PresidentS would present themselves in any stance or posture that might be deemed as lesser-than, subjected, or submissive."
I never said that Bush or Obama (or any other President) appeared "submissive" for submissives sake.
At any rate, I don't think there is anything of relevance to all that now.

You don't know protocol -- which puts you right "up" there with Obama.

Heads of state do not bow to one another, under any circumstance. And certainly a US president does not bow to royalty, since we do not accept that one person is better than another in this country.

He followed proper protocol for two heads of state, something that escapes Obama.

Just because you don't like who he's with doesn't mean there should be outrage.

"His bow is neither (1) unprecedented nor (2) a sign of cultural understanding," an academic who knows Japanese culture well explained in a message to ABC's Jake Tapper. In 1971, President Nixon bowed to Emperor Hirohito and his wife and repeatedly referred to them as "Your Imperial Majesties."
Nixon got the bow right, though -- a slight bend from the waist with hands at his side. "Obama's handshake/forward lurch was ... jarring and inappropriate," according to Tapper's friend.
Thomas Lifson, who lived in Japan for years and taught hundreds of foreign executives the right way to bow, agreed that -- regardless of any political subtext -- Obama's combination low-bow/handshake was a mess.
It "violates a fundamental precept: NO TOUCHING while bowing," Lifson wrote for the American Thinker blog.
He also noted that Emperor Akihito had a big smile on his face as Obama bowed.
"That's pretty much polite Japanese for 'falling down laughing,'" Lifson explained.

I think the sample is somewhat skewed. President Obama will never do well in this crowd. I don't think that what we have here is even close to the national perception of the programs he has suggested and attempted to put into practice. if it's something associated with the President it is automatically rejected because it's socialistic, or it's communistic, or it's muslim, or it has been introduced by a man who isn't even a citizen, etc. etc. etc. I think a more accurate gauge of how he is doing will begin to emerge as the re-election campaign begins in earnest. There is plenty of time and I think the conservatives want to flood the airways with diversionary tactics designed to make us think about non-issues instead of the mess we are trying to extricate ourselves from. The more confusion and chaos the conservatives can cause with their scare tactics, the better they think their chances are in 2012. I think we should just wait and see what happens in 2012. There is a lot of time between now and then. Wouldn't the conservatives be heartbroken if the country was much better off in 2012 than we had been in 2008?

It is a bow. Are we really taking this much time over a bow? I honestly do not give a damn.

It really overshadows the more important events with him in Japan-the new Japanese government. They are young, ambitious, but have no real concrete foreign policy. It is all over place. It is huge because it could change the nature of the U.S.-Japanese relationship, including bases, refueling and possible ties to international organizations.

In addition, in Japan there was talk that he might visit, in the future, Hiroshima and use it to push for a renewed sense of disarmament regarding nuclear weapons, which would be a powerful move. The idea is still in its infancy, but intriguing.

This administration has quadrupled the debt in what 9 short months. How can anybody look at me with a straight face and say we are better off now then we were in 2008. In less then one year the Obama administration has spent more money then ALL the other president in the history of the country combined. Oh yea but they have saved or created how many jobs?

You people keep drinking this cool-aid

But mark my words this unsustainable

This man has done more to hurt this country then anyone in history!

And I suppose you more then good with Obama wanting to strike a deal through the UN for gun control as well?

I actually knew about Monckton before he was on Beck's show. But it still does not change the question. Or have we come to a place where the Constitution means nothing?

You know what Bush was a horrible president in his last 4 years. I am the first to agree with you. BUT the blame Bush thing has gotten extremely old. This is on Obama now. And it was the Dems in congress such as Barny Franks and the like that along with ACORN held the banks feet to the fire to make these sub-prime lons that is a huge part of what got us in this position in the first place. So my question to you is, WHEN? When is Obama going to do ANYTHING that is going to make it better. I see no one on the political horizon that gets me excited. But what we have now just makes me sick. Because I see decision after decision that are harmful to America. You tell me which of his programs you see as a plus? This a have to hear. And do me a favor and do it without mentioning Bush if that is possible.

Is bowing not appropriate for showing respect in Japan? I believe it would be.

I thought the hoopla was over Obama showing submissiveness in his actions. To me, and this might just be my crazy thinking, holding hands and kissing someone is somewhat of a submissive act.

Certain people can do this, but there are also certain people who cannot do this.

The Constitution hasn't meant anything since FDR decided to crap all over it. The last 8 years simply reinforced that opinion.

Well Woodrow Wilson got the start of it in 1913--but yes I whole heartedly agree with you.

The whole Japan "incident" and the amount of coverage it is getting in certain areas is sad.

I could care less about Bush and holding hands, just as i could care less about Obama and his actions with foreign heads of state.

decision in the history of U.S. jurisprudence --

“The U.S. Constitution protects American citizens and visitors from the moment they are suspected of criminal wrongdoing through a potential trial. These same protections are not, have never, and should not be granted to enemy combatants in war,…”

And then we have this:

The first article mentions the exchange between the attorney general Eric Holder and Sen Graham. Holder just was not able to give any clear answer to Sen. Graham's. Holder really came off as a fool.

Senator Graham should be in jail...not discussing issues with Holder.
