Heyward and Coleman shouldve both been on first team instead of just Coleman and no Posey on either first or second team, he had a great year.

Rolle wasn't even mentioned in the honorable mention list! Bryant Browning was though?! I thought he was terrible most of the season. . . more false starts than just about everyone except Shugarts. Posey definitely should have been mentioned. . . almost 800 yds receiving in our offense is incredible.

Iowa has seven players 1st team.
OSU has one.
If that is the case Tressel should be coach of the year if he one in the the Big 10 with less talent.

Yeah, Bryant Browning and terrible should not go in the same sentence. I know he was bad last year, but he was playing out of position. All he did this year was be the highest graded performer on the Buckeye O-Line. Just sayin.Quint wrote: Rolle wasn't even mentioned in the honorable mention list! Bryant Browning was though?! OK so Iowa has 4 guys on the First team Defense while Ohio State only has 1. Lets compare the stats.
Rushing Defense
OSU-5th in the nation giving up 83 yards per game
Iowa-36th in the nation giving up 122 yards per game
Passing Defense
OSU-16th in the nation giving up 179 yards per game
Iowa-8th in the nation giving up 167 yards per game
Total Defense
OSU-6th in the nation giving up 262 yards per game
Iowa-10th in nation giving up 286 yards per game
Scoring Defense
OSU-5th in the nation giving up 12.17 points per game
Iowa-th in the nation giving up 15.50 points per game
So Ohio State gives up less yards and points while winning the conference outright, but somehow they can only manage one guy on first team all conference. Makes sense to me.

Maybe this is why I'm not a collegiate offensive line coach. . .but I found myself screaming his name out in anger many times this season. . . granted, it was less than last year, but that's not saying much.bigmanbt wrote:Yeah, Bryant Browning and terrible should not go in the same sentence. Let the other ten teams vote for each other and pat each other on the back.
The Buckeyes will just keep keeping wining the championship!!

Posey should have gotten a selection, it seems like at times he's the only receiver Pryor throws too. Heyward should have been a first team, Homan first team, terrible terrible list.

Ohio State has won the past 5 Big Ten Titles. Tressel has never been selected Big Ten Coach of the year, not even the year Ohio State went 14-0 and won theh BCS Title.

IMO, this is big time locker room material for Tress next season! We smash the league up and down for the last 7 or so years, and this is how we are perceived! LOL Thats how I would be playing these selections up if I were the coach! Were the Rodney Dangerfield, we get no Respect! Pooter, how in the heck does losing bowl games have anything to do with league selections? These should be based on how the players played against conference opponents!

Its pretty much a problem with having so many people stand out on defense for OSU. With so many guys performing so well. One or two didn't stand out as much as one or two people on shitty defenses did. It is just a product of having so many top players on one defense. I think heyward homan and rolle deserved bettter.
Heyward
Gibson
Rolle
Coleman
Homan
even spitler played very well this year.

Personally, it doesn't matter that only one Buck made 1st team, it just wreeks of envy from the other Big10 coaches and it's more than obvious to everyone who pays even a little attention. Makes them appear extremely petty.
It is disappointing for the players who did not get the nod, for them I do feel a little remorseful.

I don't see why all of you guys are so shocked by the outcomes. I don't think any OSU player should have been 1st team offense. I agree with Boren and Saine being 2nd. The only possible grip is Posey not being 2nd over DJK and the NW guy. Pryor wasn't getting 2nd team, even though I don't think the NW guy was worthy.
As for defense, I see nothing wrong in terms of OSU players. There were just simply more guys more deserving than Heyward and Gibson to be 1st team. I don't even know if Gibson should be 2nd team. Look at the stats guys, they don't lie. There were a couple games that Heyward and Gibson didn't even show up (Purdue, Iowa, etc)-- but you forgot about those right? Rolle could have possibly been 2nd team, but it was a close call. OSU had the best defense, but its because they had a lot of really good players. In a sense, they took away from each other. Those guys can have their awards, OSU has their own

And Ohio State should have handled Purdue.charliehustle14 wrote:Stanzi or not, Iowa still should have handled NW. Especially with a 10-0 lead at the time.Cleveland Buck wrote: I agree with Ferentz. Iowa is 10-2 and had several key injuries. I think they would still be unbeaten if Robinson and Stanzi didn't get hurt.
There are some bad selections in aggregate, especially on the defensive side. I don't think the COY selection is particularly egregious, though; the selection generally is some combination of results + improvement + results over expectations. On that metric, Ferentz, Fitzgerald, and Tressel all have good arguments, and I don't think it would be unreasonable for any of the three to win.
Re locker room material: if being snubbed in the all-conference selections is necessary to motivate someone, that person has some serious issues. You shouldn't need that to be fired up to play in big time D1 football.
