Any true Buckeye knows the tradition calls for the jump to occur the Thursday before the Michigan game. However, this year Thanksgiving falls on the Thursday before the game. I have noticed many of my fellow Buckeyes are organizing the jump to occur on the Tuesday before the game. Maybe I'm over reacting but this makes me an odd mix of disappointed/angry.

What say you?

As an alum... angry. Eat turkey and drive your ass back to campus to get drunk and jump, or go home and celebrate thanksgiving on tuesday. If anything why not move it to friday, who wants to be hungover and potentially sick on wed and have to drive home.

I'd keep it on Thursday but if it had to be moved I do think Friday would be better.

The jump is done on Thursday period. You current students don't need tens of thousands of alumni blaming you for the loss if the jump is done on Tues or Fri. Traditions associated with the OSU vs scUM game are sacred and non-negotiable. The slightest deviations could upset the entire space & time continuum. We got the bastards where we want 'em right now (under our heel) don't Fk this up with some stupid shit just because it's more "convenient" for you.

It's not like this is the first time that the game will have been played on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Look and see if there's a precedent for this. If they have always done it on Thursday night, even when that Thursday happens to be Thanksgiving, then keep it on Thursday. If it has been moved to Tuesday in the past (I assume this is the last day of classes for the week) when Thursday is Thanksgiving, then do it on Tuesday. I think moving it to Friday is an even worse idea. By the time it's done on Thursday it won't interfere with anyone's Thanksgiving day plans, and with the game the very next day Friday night just sounds like an awful idea.

It's all about precedent and what's been done in the past when the game has fallen after Thanksgiving.

I think it started around 1990.

Just bugs me that a bunch of my peers that wanna jump in just for the sake of getting drunk and jumping in would rather move it to a Tuesday than keep it on a Thursday and keep the tradition going.

Since its only a 20 year old tradition and since the OSU vs scUM game will again be played after Thanksgiving, I think it is time for the tradition to find a new day.

Hardly a 1990s thing...we did this back in the late 70s, but we jumped naked in Mirror Lake all the time back then. But I do specifically remember a huge group of us doing it the Thurs before the scUM game too. We marched down from Papa Joes I recall.

Great memories in the mid-90s jumping into mirror lake. I remember one Thursday my dumb ass was sicker than a dog. A couple of bong hits later, I found myself in frigid water, covered in wet toilet paper, chasing around random girls, then walking soaked in the November chill back to Chittenden Avenue. Ahhhh, good times haha

Who cares if it's Tuesday this year? The important thing is that it is still happening. Most of the students won't even be there on Thursday so it just makes sense to do it when everybody is still on campus. Complain all you want, but with Facebook groups and other networks, it's already been set in stone, this is going to happen on Tuesday this year.

I remember people jumping in on a dare or for shits and giggles (or just falling in drunk coming back from High St.) but I don't remember it being a Michigan week tradition.

If people honestly want students to jump in on Thanksgiving your IQ can't be more than 30.

My IQ may not be but I guarantee my GPA is.

But I digress... I just don't understand how people have no respect for tradition. Tradition doesn't take off holidays.

Thanksgiving is one of the biggest holidays of the year. No matter what religion you are (if any) chances are you will be gathering with friends and/or family for the yearly TRADITION of the Thanksgiving Feast. I love the Mirror Lake Jump also but IMO Thanksgiving traditions > Jumping in a lake tradition. You can't move Thanksgiving but you can move Mirror Lake Night.
