And how many RB's in the NFL succeed in that matchup? You can't have a different standard just because he's a QB, because he runs like a RB.

He's bigger than most RB's in the NFL, so if there is that risk with Tebow, there is certainly that risk with every other guy in the NFL who has the ball in his hands.

Two of the bigger backs in the NFL:
Steven Jackson - 6'2" 236 lbs
Beanie Wells - 6'2" 228 lbs

Tebow - 6'3" 245 lbs.

Those guys don't use their upper body to throw a football. They can play through a shoulder or elbow injury, a QB typically cannot.

That's the best counter argument.

One HUGE crippling hit to his left shoulder and he's out for a period of time.

However, I still think Tebow's a good enough runner to withstand most of whatever anyone can throw at him.

I'm not on the side of Tebow failing in the NFL, because I don't really know how well he will do...I hope he does well, but I can see where he would fail...but to compare him to running backs is flawed logic. Beanie Wells and Stephen Jackson don't have to throw the football half the plays.

That's a very good point. But I just don't see Tebow running more than a handful of plays per game so I would think he might be able to manage a few shots. But again, it just takes that one hit to change things.

don't qb's wear smaller/fewer pads than rb's also or is that not the case anymore?

Tebow is an f'n animal. If you can't see that he will at worst be a "solid" NFL player than you are blind.

Just watched the game off dvr. I skimmed thru it and the Bengals need a kicker, Rayner isn't the answer, too many penalties and I think Tebow will be good somewhere on the field. He may not be a qb but he needs a few plays.

There is supposed to be a competition between Rayner and Nugent..however Nugent never had the chance to kick last night..

Nuge cant kick a pro ball to save his life I guess. Rayner is too shaky for me. We can dust off Morten Andersen for the 60th time or something.

I wanted to see more of Nugent. I know he hasn't been great so far in the pros, but we didn't get much of a look last night. Rayner didn't do anything for me. He looked very average, not a whole lot of range. I'm just glad we no longer have perennial late season gag-artist Shayne Graham on the team

At worst, Tebow could be a goaline QB like he was in his freshman year at Florida and run jump passes and things and have solid NFL value because it makes for 10 blockers on 11 tacklers as opposed to conventional goaline sets and redzone touchdowns are gold in the NFL. As a QB, I think the thing that's disheartening is how often he takes two hands off the ball. Once he does that, he drops his arm and it lends him to get into his long delivery again.

Yes it is, he's a QB and dove head first into 2 guys with no time on the clock in a preseason game.

Timmy Ra-Ra injured already? Man. I'm not real surprised though, he took a shot! He needs to realize he isn't playing Charleston Southern anymore. Trying to run through 2 guys at the goal-line on a meaningless play is not very wise.

And apparently he learned quickly that you can't run over 3rd string safeties without fear in the NFL. Well now, there goes the only thing he could do in college the other quarterbacks couldn't. But don't worry, he's still learning to throw the ball like every other QB has been since 1st grade.

well yes, since people earlier in this thread were claiming he could take hits fine since he is bigger than most RBs

Not sure how that makes it funny. You can say they are wrong without laughing at a guy for getting injured.

If someone gets injured doing something stupid and its not a serious injury, its not that bad to laugh.

He dove headfirst ina meaningless game into 2 defenders, he kinda had it coming lol
