There is a pretty good chance I am going to get banned here in the near future. i imagine that would be a cause of complete indifference to 97% of the people here. And happiness for at least 2%.
Previously I had been suspended for 3 days for calling LJ our little moderator
then for 6 months for spirited discussion
So we will see

I don't post in the politics forum for that very reason. It feels a little to close to the old huddle in that forum. Although at the old huddle they never had an intermediary deciding which posts are okay and which ones are not

It's only similar to JJ's in who is posting there. The demographic isn't something that can be controlled, and it just happens to be a Tea Party circle jerk, with gibby there to piss them off. The moderating helps because even if the people are going to spew propaganda, at least they have to attempt to back it up with some proof and some sort of original thought. JJ's Politics Forum was just a name calling clusterfuck. While threads here end up being that too, at least they are required to be on track to start out.

I wasn't comparing it to JJ's politics forum. The comparison was in the way that JJHuddle was over-moderated sometimes

Sorry for the misunderstanding.

With politics anymore, basically the only options to keep it the least bit insightful/useful are kill the forum or moderate it somewhat heavily, in my opinion


In addition, I don't see where you all get that "You must agree with LJ" view. Yes, sometimes he's stubborn in discussions in threads like many of us, but I don't see it in his moderating. My views do not align with LJ pretty much at all regarding politics, but I have never had a thread denied (and this was all before I was a mod, so it has nothing to do with that). I just actually did what was required (posted a link and gave a couple sentences of personal insight) and it was on the forum.

Why can't we allow people to be adults and expect others to have thick skin? I just never understood how somebody can get in a tizzy over what some random person says on the Internet.

We all watched the JJ politics forum degrade into 3 people posting (read: name calling) and the rest of the members of the forum avoiding it like the plague. With politics, letting people "be adults" ALWAYS backfires into people being infants. Sad reality.

It's a balance... people want the arena to discuss it, but it always mutates into something people would rather avoid when it's all said and done.

no explanation, just denied.
I would think that would be a good basis for discussion on a political forum on Ohio Chatter

This is my problem in a nutshell with the politics forum. One person deciding what is okay and what is not. Seems like personal biases could very easily come into play.
