I agree that this is just idiotic. No problem with Mosque's, but you know the history at Ground Zero and what happened. That's going to get a lot of people pissed off for sure.

Actually...I take that back...I didn't read the link at first. But after reading it, I see nothing wrong with what Obama said. They do have a 'right' to build it there. Just IMO, it's in bad taste to allow it. He does say whether or not he thinks it's a good idea. He just supports the fact that it is their 'right' to build it near ground zero if they wish.

Wow, he shouldn't have said anything about it at all lol. There isn't a right answer to that question if you are him.

The funny thing is, there is already a mosque 2 blocks from where they are going to build this one. it was built before the world trade centers were. so should they just tear that one down then? its not like they are building it on ground zero or even next to it.

Which is why it's stupid to make such a big deal out of it. Freedom of religion doesn't only apply to Christians. Although some would apparently like it to.

And yeah ccrunner, I'm blindly towing the party line because I don't think there's a big problem that a mosque may be built several blocks away from Ground Zero.

Why is this a big deal?

The mosque will be two blocks away from Ground Zero and is more akin to a community center than a site devoted entirely to worship. People who are upset about this probably should do something more worthwhile with their time.

Who is providing the site? All the articles that I've read have said that the building/land in question are privately owned and are being privately purchased? What right do you have to try to stop it?

There are plenty of other people who either survived 9/11 or had family members die on that terrible day who don't have a problem with this either. But I guess they are all crazed anit-American's too?

Of course some people will feel awkward about this and many will find this distasteful. They aren't necessarily bigoted anti-islamics because of that either. It's completely understandable that those directly touched by 9/11 could feel weird or angry about this. But we don't block things in this country because we find them distasteful.

The use of the term &#8220;several&#8221; is an obvious dodge to make the site appear far away from the 9/11 site. The fact that it was damaged by debris shows the &#8220;several&#8221; for the obvious subterfuge it is. The fact that I and any other decent American has no power to stop the purchase, does in no way justify it. Legal and just are far from the same thing. The vast majority of Americans, New Yorkers and the families of 9/11 victims oppose the Mosque. What makes it wrong is not that it is for Muslims but that it is lead by a man who shares your negative opinion of America and your excuses for our enemies.
