Stuff like that always makes me feel worse before I feel better.

it's only vicodin. Pop about 7 or 8 and see where you're at...

Last week when I had my appendix removed, they gave me Oxycodone and all that does is make me drowsy and it doesn't really get rid of the pain.
I wish I had a prescription to Dilauded though

In my opinion/experience, the idea that vicodin will give you this loopy/strange feeling like you're high or drunk is off. I would think if anything, it'd just make you sleepy.
What type of pain are you taking it for?
Everyone handles their medicines differently. I would also speculate that it has a strong correlation to alcohol. For example, a 110lb woman who doesn't drink much happens to drink a few beers, she's probably feeling it. You take a guy twice her weight who drinks more often, a few beers don't touch him.
So it depends on your sex, age, body size, and overall tolerance. I've seen patients get so much pain medicine it'll make you cringe. Dilaudid every two hours, and of course then they need the zofran to balance it out. At that point they don't even need it to control the pain. They'll be asleep at 10:30am, but at 10:45am when it's time for their next dose, they're complaining of severe pain that "came out of nowhere". End rant on drug seekers.
Point is, everyone's different. I came home from work Monday and had a bad migraine. I have some vicodin left over from a tonsillectomy last year. I took a dose of that, and my headache was gone within 20 minutes. I tolerated it fine, no nausea or drowsiness.
But it's mindblowing how some drugs work on different people. I had a restless patient the other day who was getting ativan and haldol regularly, and nothing was phasing him. You give that same dosage of ativan to any other person and they're out like a light.

To be honest, whenever I've had a Vic, it's woke me up to a degree. The few times I've done them with alcohol, they've temporarily boosted me in the way that caffeine does to a person in the early morning. And back when I was married, my current ex gave me one when I had a bad headache, but had to get through a workday. I felt like I'd had 3-4 cups of strong coffee.
Like you said in your next (unquoted) paragraph, drugs affect people differently. I rarely touch pills and when I do, it's in tiny doses, but for me, they get me wired more than anything else.
