Anyone else experiencing record electric bills this Summer? I have two little ones, so we have to keep the air on. Have some fans on, and since it's been damp, the dehumidifier has been running constant as well.

Past Three:
$125 - June
$134 - July
$175 - August (record for me)

Last Summer:
$51 - June
$83 - July
$82 - August
$95 - September

June was $250, so I was worried about July. Turned out to be $45 for July. The bill says it was an actual reading but I think I am going to get hammered in August. My house is about 2100 sq ft but the windows suck. I am sure I lose a ton of energy in and out of the windows.

Another thing I noticed. I've owned my house since 2005. When I got married in 2008, nearly all my damn bills doubled. Heating, electric, of course water, porn. Ridiculous!

Ours wasn't bad this past one $136. In the summer we might be very high as in $200+ or decent meaning around $100. We are not home during peak hot hours of the day so that really helps up save. We also took down our vertical blinds and put up curtains, that has made a difference.

Our bill last month was $244. Me being the tight ass that I am, immediately shut the AC off. Our house has plenty of windows and we have lots of fans, so it really isn't that bad. I just need to do any housework early in the morning before it gets too hot. Fab, you are 100% correct. Kids should be outside anyway. ;)

I also keep my AC to 77/78. Try it you'll be surprised how cool it really is when it's scorching outside.

I couldn't even guess what our electric bill is or has been in the past. My wife pays all the bills and I never see them.

glad Im not the only one with higher bills. Ours usually run about 130-160 in the hot months of the summer but its been running from 160-200 all summer uggg. Unfortunately I have to have the ac on for my father he has alzheimer and a bad heart we do however get a little help from his insurance for it though. Usually anywhere from 30-50 a month not much but it helps. The other thing is its an old farm house with all new windows. Ive been saving to have some insulation blown in to help. One step at a time.

I would hate to see ours. Big house and we keep it on 72. Sometimes even lower. Luckily my stepdad hates being hot, lol.

July was 200. doesn't usually get higher than that.

Inefficient A/C unit and original (1940) windows on the 1st floor don't make for a good combination. Only have 4 downstairs windows...probably would only cost $1200-$1500 to get them replaced.

I was informed by an AEP official last month, after calling and bitching about the increase in my monthly bill, that they have raised their prices 20% since last year at this time..................

I the winter our bill is about $190 and in the summer it is never under $300.

Our house is about 3000 sq/ft living and we have two A/C units both set at 80 in the summer. We used to set them at 77 degrees and our bill was $350+ per month during the summer.

$97 in June, $314 in July. The actual reading caught up with me along with the hot weather.

Our outside water meter "display" unit broke at our first house - it was reading only 10% of the actual amount on the actual meter inside the house. They finally figured out there was a problem after three years - I got at $2300 water bill when they did.

I was debating turning off my A/C in this Florida heat and ask my wife not to shower for a week to simulate a Swartzy, I came to the conclusion that I would rather be pissed off at the electric bill.

I think I remember you from the Swartzy church when I was a kid, Ezekiel is that you?

And I'd kindly be telling them to fuck off.

Actually, they (City Of Columbus) were pretty easy to work with. They figured the first year was when the previous owner had the place, so they wrote off a third of it right off the top, and took off the part of the sewage/stormwater charges when I explained that I had to re-seed and water 12,000 square feet of lawn right after we moved in. They allowed us to pay the balance off over two years interest-free.
