Since I'm constantly informed that Hair Metal is not real metal, but its a genre of music I like to listen to, I thought I'd give it its own thread.

I thought that the 80s scene was a great time for music and produced some great bands and songs out of that Sunset Strip/L.A. scene, bands that are still producing music to this day and still on the road performing and doing what they love to do and they're still entertaining.

Some of my favorites:

Poison
RATT
Warrant
Motley Crue
Def Leppard
Whitesnake
Winger
Firehouse

Any other fans out there?

I still have all those guys on my iPod...with the exception of Whitesnake. For some reason, they never really did it for me.

good list. I'd add

Quiet Riot
Guns n Roses
Twisted Sister

I used to know all the guys in Warrant when they were 'Dorian Gray'. Joey Allen was one of the most talented musicians I ever met.

If were including GnR in this, then I'd have to add them. Even though I've never considered them hair metal. More just hard rock/punk/heavy metal.

No doubt Nirvana put an end to rock as it was known in the 80's and early 90's.

God love Nirvana!!! They killed the worst music (hair metal) in history of rock and brought the second coming of the best (punk)...

G'n'R was NOT hair metal....

Ha, Darby, although Nirvana had a lot to do with it, the entire grunge scene contributed to the collective death of hair metal. Hair metal had to die sometime. People tend to think grunge was basically a bunch of sad dudes who couldn't play their instruments right....but there's a hell of a lot of talent from that era (Grohl, Cobain, Cantrell, Staley, Inez, Veder, Cornell, Arm, The Melvins, etc.) So at least you can live with the fact that hair metal was killed by a troupe of some very talented bands and musicians.

A lot of the grunge bands were very punk driven. Like with Nirvana, you'd be surprised to find that they did a lot more aggressive punk songs than the melancholy, depressing songs people typically associate with them. Of course those songs never made it to the radio.
