It also depends on who they would play in the other division. If Nebraska is playing OSU every year as their "rival" game, that puts them at a disadvantage to the other teams in the West. Similar to LSU playing Florida every year.
The ACC thought Miami and FSU would be the favorites to play each other in their conference championship game, but it hasn't happened once.
Iowa, Minnesota and possibly Wisconsin will be Nebraska's "rival" games. I can see the "west" with Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin and on occasion Illinois being better than anyone in the East outside of Ohio State.
Split the damn thing East and West and stop trying to out think and over analyze and screw up an obvious alignment. Michigan and Penn State just need to man up and play in the same Division as Ohio State. I know Tressel wants to play them every year. He's not afraid of it. The way it is now Penn State, Michigan and Ohio State play each other every year.
If one of those three aren't good enough to beat the other 2 schools they don't deserve to be in the West and play in the Title Game.
