Since June 27th, the awesome tribe has a record of 19 and 15. what's worth nothing, the only team during that streak with a losing record was the Tigers. At the time of that sweep, the Tigers were above 500 as well.

What has led the charge.....pitching. Where did all the pitching come from?

They are doing what they always do....play their way into a giant hole, then once the pressure is off...they play well.

They're getting bent over tonight though.

Sucks because the Clippers were playing well before the Indians raided them. When I went we had some guy catching who was in Lake County like 10hrs before.

But this is definitely a good test for them.. 14-14 in their last 28 games against teams .500 or better. 12-9 since the ASB.

They split the Red Sox, whom need to win every game they can to keep up with the Rays/Yankees...

The Tribe is developing their young talent while competing against playoff caliber teams. To me, this is more telling than a team reeling off a bunch of wins in the 2nd half against other scrubs.

The Indians are now the youngest team in the Majors, yet they're still competing.

Hell, they're only like 7 games behind the Tigers now, whom have a 100+ million dollar payroll!

I saw that stat about youngest team in the majors either last night or the night before. I was surprised you're about a full year younger than my Pirates, especially after they unloaded five 30+ journeymen by the trade deadline.

Bad teams need to do that in the second half of the season...get young and let the kids develop. Pirates haven't been as good as the Indians since the all-star break, but they've been a bit better winning-wise than before the break (no 2-18 periods like in June yet). Both teams have the potential to have a solid nucleus...if the skinflint owners let that happen.

A more surprising stat is that the Pirates are outdrawing the Indians on average by about 3,000 per game. (20,092 for PIT, 17,499 for CLE... worst in MLB)

I can at least see a core that the Indians can build around. This time last year I really couldn't put this together, so I would say they have made some progress.
Sizemore - I don't think he is going to turn into the stud that many thought, but he is still a quality player in the outfield when healthy
Choo - Has a hose in RF, and has shown that he can hit in the top half of the order if needed. Has been their best player the last year and a half.
Cabrera - quality SS, and looks like an ideal #2 hitter to me.
Santana - Was thrust into the 3 and 4 hole and has shown he belongs.
Laporta - He has shown some increased power this go round. Can be a good piece hitting in the 6 or 7 spot of a lineup.

Those are 5 guys that look like they will be quality Major Leaguers. Donald is probably a utility guy in MLB, Crowe probably a 4th outfielder. They still need to find to 3B, but do have 2 guys in the minors that are putting up good offensive #'s. Ideally Michael Brantley will put things together at the Major League level and hit at the top of the order, but I am not sure that is going to happen. They could really use 1 power bat, ideally from the right side, to plug into the middle of the order. Not sure that is going to happen unless Laporta really heats up his progression. I could see as soon as next year with everyone healthy them having a good year on the offensive side of things. They are still years away on the pitching end though, unless guys like Alex White, Carlos Carasco & Hector Rondon can make major impacts next year, which I seriously doubt.

Indians having a good night so far being up 5-1 on the Twins with Liriano pitching who dominated the Indians last time he pitched against the Tribe.

I think their pitching far outshines their hitting. The team ERA has been fantastic over the past 7 weeks...especially given the competition they've played. Gomez had another excellent outing. The relief pitching has been the best it's been since the miracle year of 07.

And the tribe only plays about 9 games the rest of the way against winning teams. The pitching has been stunningly remarkable. Who are those guys? Us die hard Cleveland fans appreciate the little things in life.

I think this is due to 2 factors.

1. The overall economy in Pittsburgh is much better.

2. Fallout from the Lebron thing. People in Cleveland need a break from sports right now.

I'm happy for Matt LaPorta. My aunt is a diehard Indians fan. She had 2 cars stolen at Indians games many years ago.
