I will be in the Bay Area in mid October for our honeymoon. Splitting it between the Bay Area and Vegas. We are spending 2 nights on the Monterey Peninsula and 2 night in San Fran. Anyone been to/spent time in San Francisco? I was looking at staying in either the Union Square or Fisherman's Warf areas. Any suggestions on which area to stay, or hotels I should look at?

Stay at the W, great spot in San Francisco. The Palace is decent as well, and I prefer Union Square to the Wharf (I dug the Wharf, but its kindof far from everything).

This didn't even cross my mind until I read this. I guess I won't have to worry about my soon-to-be wife leaving me while we are on that portion of the trip.

I was in SF a month ago and stayed at The Powell. I got a pretty good rate on Travelocity.com. It is in the Union Square area. The room rate was decent and most importantly, it had the cheapest parking rate for downtown SF (a lot of the hotels charge $50 and up per day). The rooms were decent adn you areright in the thick of things downtown. I was a couple miles away from Fisherman's Warf, but you can take the BART or a trolley back and forth. Chinatown is also very close.

I actually spent alot of good times in San Fran, when I live just north of it. It's funny though, that I never spent one night at a hotel in that time.
Wish I could help ya .... I can recomend some clubs and restaurants! lol

I just went a few months ago and stayed at the Best Western Hotel California. It was okay, but kinda smelled like kitty litter. It was cool because it was old but not someplace I'd want to stay on my honeymoon.

We stayed at the Radisson at Radisson Fishermans Wharf, I chose it because it is one of the few where you can get rooms where you can see the bay. We looked straight at Alcatraz. There are two entrances, lobby on Beach St or 2nd entrance off of The Embarqadaro - literally right on Fisherman's Wharf. Decent hotel, not fabulous but we were only at it to sleep. Nice pool, never used it. It doesn't list a restaurant but you walk out the front door, turn left and the next door (same building) is I-Hop and my daughter was thrilled so we did breakfast there almost every day. I think it's a perfect location for Fisherman's Wharf. Diagonal from Pier 39 (where the seals are), cute shops, lots of restaurants.

From our window I watched them turn the sub around that is a museum. It was great. People were nice at the hotel, it was clean. Oh and had free parking.

OH and each morning we watched people, with chase boats, swim from Alcatraz to the shore in front of us. 2 weeks later one of the people we watched (12 year old boy but we didn't realize it) set a world record in his swim.

We flew in to SF airport - shouldn't have done that. Fly in to Oakland. I hated figuring out the tram system that you have to use to get around SF airport just to get to rental car. Driving around SF was very easy. We did Lombard Street (crooked street) several times just cause it's a riot to do. Went shopping downtown and ate at several restaurants there. We drove through Chinatown but didn't have time to stop. Went to Did the Alacatraz tour, be sure to rent the recording for $5.00 that gives the tour, really worth it. Ate at

This is what's on Pier 39 - I think the Forbes House restaurant would be cool to eat at, might be pricey though. http://www.pier39.com/GroupPrograms/UniqueVenues/index.htm
It's C on this map.http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=san+francisco+fisherman%27s+wharf+hotels&fb=1&gl=us&hq=hotels&hnear=Fisherman%27s+Wharf,+San+Francisco,+CA&ei=nCZYTPLCC8T58Ab7n9CUCw&sa=X&oi=local_group&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CD0QtgMwAA We ate at Fog Harbour on Pier 39, might not have been the same name. Liked it a lot. Did not like Neptunes at Pier 39 but the views were fabulous and I would try it again - things change.

We got to hotel about 10 pm and were starved. The San Franciscan (3 minute walk out back door of hotel, right on the bay. Great food, great service, GREAT views. http://www.franciscancrabrestaurant.com/

We went up Coit Tower (fireman's memorial) - free and amazing views. http://www.sftravel.com/coit-tower-san-francisco.html

We went over the Golden Gate Bridge a couple of times and drove around and right now I can't think of the city right across the bridge but it's a cut little town.

We went to to Ghiardelli Square and unless it's improved a lot, I'd skip that. really don't see that it's worth the time. Was the original factory, now some small shops.

Placement on map is approximate

I loved our trip there and would so like to go back again. We did a bunch of other stuff too - check out this site for information (and you can book alcatraz tickets in advance, save some money and time in line.
