Hell, maybe if Hafner clears waives itll light a spark in him. I mean, we cant be afraid of hurting a guys feelings in fear of him producing less, because he doesnt produce shit as it is.

I think its pretty clear Hafner roided and he will never be as good as he was again. Can't feel bad for a guy who has a $57 million contract.

like that, try a Mark Buerhle fastball to the side of the face/head, ever since that happened he was never the same. Its ashame after the three years he put together that it came to an abrupt end.

It is just hoping that someone takes a flier on him..I would guess. My problem is that you are limited to about 15 teams that can take him because he cannot play in the field. I just cannot see it happening.

If the Indians can get a solid starting 5, they'll contend in this piss poor division next season.

I think they'll be legit contenders for the division in 2012 though.

I like the everyday line up and the bullpen is pretty good as well.

If the Indians can get a solid starting 5, they'll contend in this piss poor division next season.
They HAD a very legitimate pitching staff, but refused to even attempt to keep anybody.

It just seems they have slipped back into a mode where the only way they'll contend will be if they catch lightning in a bottle....obtain a bunch of young guys who don't cost anything and that they have control of, and hope they can gel and win before they have to pay them.

They offered CC 18 million a year.

CC refused to even talk contract during the season.

Cliff Lee? Yeah. we should have kept, but oh well.

Jake? He's "ok" and a good 4th starter... Hell, he could possibly sign back in Cleveland in the offseason.

Fausto and Mitch seem to be a good duo right now, and hopefully Masterson takes his lumps this year and rebounds next year. His stuff is too filthy to struggle.

Josh Tomlin has looked great as has Jenmar Gomez.

Didn't this happen to Jake a few years ago when he was released and signed by Texas, then came back? I looked up his stats, but couldn't find it. Interestingly, I found that he came to us from the Yankees in exchange for good old Ricky "Herman Munster head" Ledee.

Obviously they were very astute in evaluating what they HAD. They had top notch starting pitching...now they don't.
I don't find that funny at all.

As well he should have.


Honestly, I still dont know why we idnt try to sign him long term earlier. I get the risks of signing pitchers, and ehs a big dude. But he has ALWAYS been a horse, and showed that Cy Young stuff very early on. Not injury prone. We should have locked him up long term about 3 years before he became a free agent. I think it was his .500 season with the stellar ERA.

It was 2006, Sabathia went 12-11 with a 3.22 ERA. He would have jumped at the money at that point, imo and it would have been a smart decision for the Indians given that it was the first year he REALLY started to pitch. He developed the presence on the mound and was able to throw any pitch at any time. His record was poor, but you could see the light go on that season that he was about to be a perennial Cy Young candidate.

Honestly, I'm glad we didn't sign CC back. He's not worth the money he's making.

He screwed us in the postseason as well....

I was more mad about Cliff Lee.

Ok, I'll repeat it.. I'm glad we didn't tie up 18-22 million in CC.

He won a World Series on a LOADED Yankees team.

In 2007 with us:

CC was 0-2 with a 10.45 ERA only going 10 TOTAL innings and giving up 12 runs in the ALCS alone!

BB/9 6.1 H/9 14.8

Also had a TERRIBLE WHIP of 2.32

What were we doing in 2008 with him? Exactly my point.

IF/when you sign guys early you are expecting them to develop, and that is what happened...C.C. continued to develop. Now even if we give them a free pass with C.C....what about the Lee fiasco?

Basically, you had a front office that ignored the weaknesses in the team and the coaching staff, and failed to make the proper choices and moves to take a very competitive team to the next step. Year after year, the same problems would occur...e.g. situational hitting, lack of bunting skills etc....and these weakness were allowed to continue. Your team will not get better if you trade the most productive players...the players who were not the problem to begin with.
