but we need him in October.....the rest of the Reds are killing the Braves pitching anyways

Oh, I wasn't saying that to refute him getting the day off. I want him healthy for the playoffs so I am fine with him getting tomorrow off.

I don't know how Dusty will class this game today! 7 pm Fri, 4 pm Sat, and 1 pm Sun. Not exactly any in there you could call a night game followed by a day game, so with games every 20-21 hrs this series, rather than the typical 17-18 hrs for a day game after a night game, maybe he'll play Rolen Sunday. Especially since its for the series win against the first place team in the east, and to get started well with a tough schedule in August, and to practice the psyche for the winner take all post season series. I'm pretty sure the playoffs have some night games followed by day games in there in the first round.

Rolen won't get tomorrow off I don't think, not with the Pirates coming up. I'd bet that Heisey and Nix will be in there as well, although it might be Nix and Bruce even though Jay is struggling bigtime. I'm guessing...

2B Phillips

3B Rolen
RF Bruce
CF Heisey
LF Nix
C Hernandez
P Volquez

Then again, with the way Stubbs is hitting, you could justify sitting both him and Bruce. Who knows, Dusty may go with Nix and Heisey.

The shorthanded Pirates were unable to help the Reds out for the 2nd night in a row. Hopefully the Reds can take advantage of the Pirates poor offense next week - it took the Pirates until the 18th inning to score their first run off of St Louis. They were making a bid to score in the first however and the umps took them out of it. They had runners on first and second with one out when garret Jones popped it up to the catcher. It started out foul, but then came back fair for the infield fly rule. The catcher missed it, but the runners tried to advance, and the throw went to 2B, where the SS took the throw like he would on a forceout and the runner slid in without being tagged and the ump called him safe. Then the umps huddled and decided he was out at 2nd, and the batter was too, to end the inning. How can major league umpires get it so wrong!

Nope, I went to Saturday's game. Found out about 9 am and had to high tail it to columbus and then on to cinci. Then came back to perrysburg for a 5 keg birthday party. I just got home, slightly tired. The only hotel I could find was the holiday inn across the river and it was $200 a night. No thanks.

????? Jurrgens was dominant until arroyo plunked him. Votto should have had a ball thrown in his ear hole. Second straight day of hitting a pitcher when he is going well? Bush league stuff.

No way were the pitchers getting plunked on purpose. Total flukes on both accounts. Had they been intentional I am sure the Braves would have retaliated and with good reason.

So its coincidence that the Reds felt it necessary to pitch inside against dominating pitchers late in back to back games? Jurrjens came into yesterday with a .056 average. Throw 3 fastballs down the middle and he will gladly go sit in the dugout.

Then the Braves are lame for not retaliating if it was so obvious that it was on purpose.

sometimes retaliating isn't done for the timing of possibly costing the team a ballgame

I don't think Toothpick talked to the reds pitchers and told them to throw at Jurrjens and Medlen. Just think its odd in that both of them were rolling and then they get plunked late in the game.

Did anyone at this game get there early enough to see that youth bball team on the field? Brandon was the only player to actually shake every single one of their hands as the team was heading out to the field for the top of the first. A couple guys Heisey and Leake were talking to them from the dugout rail but I thought it was pretty cool for BP to do that. He's always been a big community guy, just another nice gesture.
