I was inspired by the other wedding thread. No matter what your wedding budget is/was/will be, what do you think is worth "splurging" for.

Ah can't believe I left that one out. I can't figure out how to add it as an option though ....

Weed brownies. I'm not even joking.

At a family friend's wedding (in Cali) they had an entire buffet area of deserts containing weed. Brownies, cookies, etc. It was AWESOME. They were mixed with a blend of both Indica and Sativa so it wasn't a terribly strong body or heady high and just enhanced the entire wedding experience. Not necessarily recommended for the groom, but definitely awesome as a guest.

Photography. We got married on a budget - didn't miss any of the food, drinks, music, and my mother made my wife's dress. But we do wish we had better pictures of the day.

I plan on having a live band and DJ so I know that will cost a large chunk. I want it to be the most fun anyone's had at a wedding so entertainment and booze will certainly be high on my list. That said...I have NO idea where I want to get married thus no idea how much the venue will cost. I also have no idea how much the food or photographer would be. I am pretty much clueless and I am sure a lot of my ideas will change once the task of planning is actually in front of me.

Photographer, by a large margin...that doesn't mean you need to get the most expensive photographer, but one that is competent, and ideally has assistants. My brother and cousin (raised as my sister) used family/friend connections at their respecting weddings and their photos turned out terrible (not that I'd say anything to them). There were group shots where the lighting is off, it wasn't centered properly, there were no candid shots, etc.

I selected other, because I think the food is a waste of money, but i think one of the best ways to keep people happy and a party going is to have booze

I'm with you on this one and relatively speaking our band was our biggest investment. We wanted them because they played at our friends wedding and were amazing. So good in fact that my other friend is using them as well.

We recently attended my daughter's friend's wedding with an open bar. I must admit weddings tend to be more fun when the booze is flowing free. It was one of the funnest weddings we're been to in some time. The weddings that stand out all seem to have one thing in common...free booze. :)

Do you want the splurging to be for you or for the guests?? Definitely entertainment if you want the guests to enjoy it.

Booze/Food is probably 75-80% of our total cost of the wedding.

food or photo. as long as you have a few selections of beer, wine, and cheap liquor that's fine, i don't think it's worth splurging for. people will remember the food though, especially if it's really bad or really good. it's worth spending a little extra on. photographer is worth it to an extent, but you can get a bad one that charges a lot or a good one that is reasonable. that takes a lot of research.

I vote the honeymoon, thats considered part of the wedding to me.

I'm willing to spend enough money on that where I do not have to see another living soul for an entire two weeks unless I choose to do so.

This.

We spend ours on in a cabin on a lake in the woods on someone's farm - completely private. Went into town (Bloomington, IN) once in the middle of the week for groceries, wine, a movie, and more condoms.
