Chelsea Clinton is getting married this weekend. Her wedding is reported to cost between 3 and 5 million dollars. What did your wedding cost? My wedding cost about $5000.00. The cost was shared among my wife and I, her parents, and my parents. It wasn't a lavish affair, but it was fun and memorable.

I have no idea. I just showed up. I was simply a guest at my wife's party.

Our wedding was around $35,000. It was pretty nice on the grand scale of things- 250 people, a band, sit down dinner at a country club, lots of flowers, my wife had a pretty extravagant dress, etc. Can only imagine what this one will be like.

Our is this coming May. We are projected to spend around $7,000...
Fingerfoods, fruits, desserts only, mid afternoon reception, only 100 guests (compared to brothers reception of 350 or so)...Private dinner after the short reception for immediate family only (12-15 people).
Paid for almost entirely by my wife and I. All paid up before the wedding day, best way to do it (wedding debt = not a good idea).

When all is said and done, our wedding this October will come in around $70,000. Mind-boggling how expensive so many elements of the wedding are.

Depressing thread. I have no plans to get married anytime soon and I feel like I should already start saving.

We didn't spend much because we didn't have much. We had it in our home church, and the reception was dry and held in the church rec room in the basement. My best man hung some cans on the back of our car and drove us around town for awhile beeping his horn, but there weren't many folks who actually saw us because of the tornado warnings that were issued at about the time we started our drive around town. That should have been a sign, but I ignored it. I was working full time in a factory during the night and taking a full load of classes during the day. My wife was working full time as a secretary at the local university to help pay my way through school. I'm going to estimate that the entire cost of our wedding was probably around $5.03. (I may have slightly understated the cost , but I know that it wasn't near $1,000.) The reason we are still together is that we just finished paying the wedding off.

I'm getting married next June and the whole thing will probably run around $35k - $40k. Just a ridiculous amount of money for a few hours of partying, but the fiance's parents are paying for everything. If it were up to me, or if I were paying for it, we would get married in the Caribbean and only invite immediate family.

I think a friend of mine and his wife had the best idea. They and their immediate families paid their own way to Hawaii. They were married on the beach and wore very casual clothing. After the wedding , they had a luau on the beach as the sun set.Their honeymoon followed in beautiful Hawaii.
When they returned home , they had beer and pizza reception with a DJ at a local legion hall. Their guests had a great time as they viewed a video of the wedding and the luau produced by the bride's brother, drank, ate, and danced.

It turned out alright though, thedynasty1998. After becoming a teacher, I attended every professional Meeting I could find. Chicago, Indianapolis, Cleveland, Columbus, Orlando. Anaheim and on and on and on. One time during a particularly uplifting Meeting in Chicago I walked up to the "open bar" and ordered a screwdriver. The barmaid, a very nice girl who had been wonderfully cordial and dependable was shaking her head "no" and I couldn't believe she was cutting me and my fellow teacher off. She was very apologetic and told us it wasn't that. The problem was that we had drunk all the orange juice. teaching will do that to you on occasion. In other words, I made up for the "dry" wedding many times over.

~$4000.
Biggest expense was my wife's dress which after alterations was roughly $1000.
2nd biggest expense was photographer which was around $500?
The cake was our "gift" from a family friend who made wedding cakes as a side business.
My family made all the food for the reception.
The reception was dry as neither my wife nor I drink hardly at all and her dad is a Southern Baptist preacher.
What's funny is we had about 300 people there and about "broke even" as we got almost $4000 in cash gifts.

We spent about 2 grand. I've no need or want of a big wedding and find them very wasteful. (Fun, but wasteful.) We had a small ceremony with immediate family and friends then had about 150 at our reception which was in our backyard. It was very tastefully done (by me) and we had a wonderful time. Wouldn't have done it any differently.

$5000-$7000. Not turrible. We have wedding ("trust") funds set up for both our daughters.

I don't think we spend more than $500 in 1991. Didn't get an elaborate dress, ceremony at our family church (sans music), simple reception at a hall where several family members helped decorate and I prepared or arranged all the food. A co-worker videotaped for us, another co-worker was a DJ and gave me a great price. Biggest expense was probably for the alcohol (3 kegs and some wine, I think) and silk flowers for two bouquets, corsages, bouteniers and head table centerpiece. I can't imagine wasting tens of thousands of dollars on one event. You're just as married on the cheap as you are on a tropical island paradise.
