http://www.nesn.com/2010/07/report-jhonny-peralta-traded-to-tigers-for-giovanni-soto.html
The Indians have traded JP to the Tigers. Peralta was making 4.6 million this year and was in the last year of his contract. The Tigers needed 3rd base help with Brandon Inge ailing.
Tribe picks up a nice,. but low level prospect...Giovanni Soto.

We got more than a bag of balls!!!!
I gotta laugh at the fact that everyone said you can take Peralta when Inge went down, then they actually did.

I believe the Indians are to pay the remaining 1.8M on his contract.

wow...I thought Westy and maybe Wood would be gone...never thought that they could unload Jhonny. What is next...Hafner?

Hafner seems stale. I think that he will be sold sometime in the near future. The Indians are a yearly seller and Hafner may still have a bit of value although not very much. After he is sold however, count on him having an unbelievable transformation into a really good player. this happens in Detroit a lot also.

Wood is pitching in Akron tonight who wants him? Hafner is a joke. Westy will be gone by weeks end.

heard the Indians broadcast crew talking things over w/ Shapiro while Fausto was getting railed by my Yanks earlier and apparently he was making $13 million... sounds like he was overpaid

Maybe total. He is making less than 5 million this year.

i still think paying him that total is overpaying him. I wasn't impressed with a .246 hitter the last couple nights @ Progressive

I'm used to seeing him only the 8 or so times the Yanks play Cleveland a year. If you're happy you actually got a body for him I guess it was a good trade for you, eventhough the kid you got is headed directly to Lake County

The guy we got is young, only 19, left-handed and has a 2.61 ERA in 16 starts over 82 IP. He's struck out 76 and walked 25. He throws his fastball 86-89 mph along with a 75-mph changeup. His cutter is his most effective pitch. All of his offerings play up because of his ability to command them with plenty of deception.

I thought Cleveland wasn't dumping salary? This looks like a salary dump move to me. I wouldn't trust Larry Dolan to water my plants. Not an ounce of truth in him.

Not really a salary dump, more as a getting rid of garbage to pave the way for the young studs to come up in the future (Lonnie Chisenhall).

a deceptive 5 pitch guy is going to have his way in low A ball...i cant wait for him to bring his 86 mph fastball to the majors (sarcasm)
i feel like the indians do the same thing over and over...when will they learn that finesse lefties are not going to get the job done (sowers, huff, laffey) not only do they suck but theyre terrible future trade bait too...how many out of 100 turn out to be mark buehrle?

Laffey isn't a bad pitcher and I wouldn't really call him a "finesse" guy as he pitches to contact with his sinker.

^LOL...isnt the definition of a finesse guy somebody who pitches to contact because they dont have to arm to overpower hitters?
and out of the 3 i mentioned i actually like laffey...i used to feel like he had a pretty good upside but hes been consistently worse over the past 3 seasons - 18-21 w a 4.42 era isnt a guy youll see in many playoff caliber starting rotations

I think Laffey's problem is that he's never had anything remotely considered a consistent role. He gets bounced from the rotation to bullpen pretty much constantly, so I don't think he ever has gotten in a rhythm. Granted, I doubt he'd ever amount to more than a #3-4 starter, but it'd be nice if the organization gave him a role and kept him in it for an entire season.

Yep. My first thought when I saw this was 'Oh good. Another soft tossing lefty'.
He has a cool name though, so maybe it will work out.

Question...at 19 yrs of age, isn't it possible that he may gain some mph on his fastball still? Not saying it is going to happen, but he is a very young guy.

Moon Pie's legacy here will be that he holds the all-time club record for home runs by a shortstop in one season. I can't believe that br1986fb hasn't posted here yet.
