I have a job. I love it. Get paid reasonably , depending on cost of the event, to serve banquets at the Ohio Union. It's pretty slick, we serve huge weddings and meetings for businesses and VIPs. Last Saturday I had an Ohio State wrestling legend's wedding and a Big Ten research meeting with a Nobel Prize winner in physics in the same day. It's pretty neat. Plus the coworkers all go to school here so we just hang out when we're not serving people.

I didnt find a job this summer. Granted I only applied online places, literally didn't walk in anywhere and ask. So I obviously tried really, really hard.

Working for school credit this summer instead of money. Kinda sucks but I gotta do it.

bleh, i think they are jobs out there, I just think a lot of people who are complaining dont want to take lower level jobs or labor jobs. I found a new job this summer. I know a couple people who got new jobs this summer as well. Hell, my brother just got back from his training in the marines, put in a few applications, and had 3 interviews just this past week. I also have a couple buddies (19yrs old) who just got hired at the mine and are making 80k a year now. Oh, and I live in probably the poorest economical area of the state (the ohio valley)

Lucky I'm in the Navy. Joined at just the right time before they started getting way backed up for people joining. Pay isn't great but it isn't bad and my bank account is bigger than it's ever been and no debt and I was making bank at both my IT jobs before I joined the Navy.

Belly, you're one of the more fun posters to argue with on here. Mostly because you'll write sentences like that where every third word is dick or testicle.

Graduated from OSU 18 months ago, still looking for a job in my field or something similar. Right now I'm running my Dad's business and working for the census on the side.

I grew tired of Cbus and looking for a job was frustrating. After I graduated I had a really hard time making ends meet with my shit job at the time.....so I bounced.

I've been living at home for the last 5 months and its killing my soul!!!! My goal is to move to NYC, I have some leads, but nothing solid....yet.

Yeah, do not be afraid to look for work outside your direct field that's somewhat related (or even only remotely). A good example is how many architects work in the video game industry now. Digital buildings need solid design too.

I'm haven't been "pigeonholing" anything. I've been sending out apps for all types of jobs. And I mean ALL TYPES. Hell I've even been applying for shit that I'm not qualified for. I had a pretty broad major, so I'm up for just about anything.

The NYC search is looking positive though. I've been getting a lot more calls and replies to apps than I did when looking in other cities.

I'm not saying YOU are doing that, I was giving an example of how a step further in that direction can be ruinous. Perhaps I didn't clarify enough in my post.

In other words, alot of people go to college to specialize in one thing, and then when it comes time to get that one specialized job, the resources are limited. Then they are weary of stepping out of their niche.
Likewise are the people who have had a job in their niche, lose it, and then don't know how to step out of the problem.They then will rely on unemployment hoping that their niche will magically appear for them, which doesn't happen alot of times. Hence, my example of somebody I know that is about to lose everything because he (actually they - married) pretty much refuse to alter anything about their lifestyles. I think it's a sad situation, but my heart doesn't bleed for them.
Thank God they don't have kids, I suspect it would be worse.

Kudo's to you though, for thinking outside the box and outside the area you are in. That's another problem that alot of folks are having. Migrating. Some folks just will not do it.

I totally agree look outside the box ..What you think you may not be qualified for, you maybe the best option for the job and or future advancement within the company.
My wife after 25 years was let go from a top management position. She likes to work and stay busy. What to do and where to go??? We saw a position in the Healthcare Field she applied and got an interview ..what because she had managerial skills and people skills and gray matter, she sold them on herself that she could learn the software and with her other skill would be an asset to the company. Hire the next day…. Loves her job, no stress and she is a very valuable to the firm.

People if you have GRAY MATTER (working knowledge, common sense, work ethic / values and some degree of problem solving), high level personal hygiene / pride and good professional presentence (dress for success)…. One more thing Confidence not arrogants ..Confidences
That want will help land a job.
When applying for a position show respect and dress like you want the position not like you’re ready to work the position. Old School …

I’m a perfect example with my spelling skill and grammar and educational background ..should I be running companies, investing others money, directing the future of other business, designing, manufacturing and engineering products? Hell No..but I can with conviction and confidence am I qualified to do those task….NO

Prerry slow week this week but thats what you get with a new company trying to find its niche. 50hrs one week and 20 the next.....

I graduated from Nelsonville-York in '08. Growing up in a small town, there were only manual labor jobs when I started looking. After growing tired of killing myself for low wage jobs, I joined the Army. There are very, very few jobs for 18-24 year olds in Athens county (unless you have a degree, or want to travel to Columbus every day)
