LOL the old "Catholic Schools Recruit" argument...you are so far wrong on this Sage it actually makes you look more stupid than your usual posts already do. Follow the money d-bag, there ain't any to offer! Now if some parent decides to pay full-boat so his kid can play for a winner that's a different story. That's just good parenting.

You're right, Catholic Schools have never recruited kids in their lives. Foolish, foolish me.

Catholic schools recruit. Absolutely they do. I'll instead argue the opposite direction, what's the difference between a public school with open enrollment and a private school? They both recruit surreptitiously.

LOL.

So you see nothing wrong with a CATHOLIC school recruiting kids to play FOOTBALL?

I'm sure the Pope would be proud.

What a joke you lot are.

Do you see anything wrong with schools using open enrollment to help their football programs?

Well, they're not religious and masquerading behind the fact that they're there to turn boys into men and make them better human beings.

Recruiting 15-18 year old kids to play a sport to add man-made glory to their institution...to me... it seems to be against some pretty big creeds in the Catholic Church. #justsaying

And yes, I'm against any school recruiting 15 year olds for sports.

Well in Toledo, when you have four Catholic high schools and none of them have K-8 (except for Stritch now), you're going to see a lot of recruiting for the eighth graders every year. But it's not just for sports it's for enrollment too. Do they go after specific athletes? Fuck yes. Do they bend admittance regulations? Fuck yes. I once heard St. John's' Pearson works with office that decides scholarships and whatnot...I mean come on! haha

Still though, I know plenty of shady stuff that happen with the publics too. Do some research into the deal Vicars got on his mortgage when he moved to Genoa to coach. He brought his all-star sons. Mysteriously some Lake kids roll on into town soon thereafter and star on the team. How about Oak Harbor down the road...not all of their State Champions are from Oak Harbor.

Shit happens. Deal with it. It's a Machiavellian world.

The POPE!?!? believe me aint many decisions being made in Catholic America anymore based on what the Pope may or may not believe in. And again (if) letting a family know little Johny can come play football as long as they pay the entire tab - how is that "recruiting"?

have you only experienced waking up? I had two guys I went to grade school and middle school with that ended up going to a catholic school on a full ride just cause of athletics. They said it was academics but when both of them are in the bottom ten of a class how is it they got a full ride due to academics lol

Edit: they were also hands down the best two athletes in my class.

Catholic schools can go out and ask people to come to their school. Public schools cannot do that.

Also, Private schools can allow kids from ANY district to go to their school. Open enrollment is usually limited to only bordering districts.

The main advantage private schools have over public schools in sports is not about the kids they do have, it’s about the kids they don't have. I attended both public and private schools and the major difference was the public school had a large number of kids who did NOTHING. They didn't play sports, didn't do band, choir, etc. they simply bloated the enrollment number. The public schools still have to take them which means they are just not going to produce the same quality sports teams per capita that private schools do.

Before a private school advocate tells me that private schools do not turn down students who are willing to pay, I totally agree with that. However, these kids are almost always low income kids with parents who are not involved so they would never end up a private school anyways. High school sports with the exception of D1 is about having the most talented team with the smallest number of kids, and private schools by their nature are set up to do that better than publics.

When Our mighty GreenWave won 3 consecutive state titles in Baseball. Many of the PUBLIC school fans cried recruiting. All of those kids had played together since the 2nd grade. Spend more time and energy on your own work ethics an success and less on blaming others for your own failures . You will go much further in life.

Put the kid for pre-school in a private school because of the cities schools being grossly overcrowded. This year (kindergarten) he will be in public schools.

Well this certainly took an ugly turn...

And for the record, I am not an "elitist fuck." If I decide to send my children to private school, I will make other financial sacrifices to do so. And the decision will be made based on what my wife and I feel are best for my boys.

How come everytime somebody argues the Private schools recruit side they always know somebody or their brother-in-law knows somebody or their cousin...etc etc "knows somebody" who got full rides. How come we never hear from anybody personally who got a full ride to go to Catholic school? WHY is it on a website supposedly full of super-ex HS jocks you'd think somebody would step up and say "I got a full ride to attend Catholic School solely based upon my athletic abilities!"

Exactly....you're all full of shit is WHY.

A lot of kids leave private schools to go to bigger public schools for athletic purposes. It works both ways. Most people go to a private school for the academics.

I went to a private school and can say with 100% certainty that my school didn't give out any athletic scholarships. And this is a school that is dominant in softball (gets a transfer almost every year), consistently makes the football playoffs and has two boys basketball state appearances over the last 8 years.

The main reason most attend the HS is because of the poor public school education in the area, religious beliefs, or a certain discipline that comes with private school education.

wat. The only instance I can think of this happening is the kid who was illegally recruited from Alter to Trotwood (and their coach subsequently got busted)
