Title IX has screwed over so many men's teams in this country its not even funny.

If you ever wondered why Wisconsin doesn't have baseball and is the only Big Ten team without it, that's why

Was just about to post this link.

Cheercoach will not be pleased.

Can't help but laugh out loud thinking of those old threads on the Huddle's cheerleading forum. She was so easy to fire up . . . . good times.

It's hurt wrestling way more than it has hurt baseball thats for sure. Pisses me off.

Very funny article to see though. I always argued that cheerleading was not a sport. I wish this happened when I was in HS so i could just shove this link into a few cheerleaders' faces when they tried to argue that it was a sport.

I wonder what will be the implications of this ruling. Since cheerleading isn't considered a sport, does that mean more male programs (most likely wrestling unfortunately) will be dropped?

Yeah I have heard it has hit track and cc hard as well. How many track/cc teams are a part of the MAC? Wrestling only has 6. I believe there are about 120 NCAA Div I schools, and only 80 them have wrestling. All 120 schools used to have wrestling. The SEC no longer has wrestling.

Then may I please have my pay to play money back for 2 daughters x four years of high school x 2 sports (had to pay for football and basketball)?

Swimming is another victim of Title IX...

I believe only 5 of the Mac schools have Men's Swimming programs at this point.

We cut Men's Track/CC and swimming back in 2007 here at Ohio due to it.

Just did a quick check, there are 6 schools in the MAC with wrestling, 6 with men's track, and 4 with men's swimming/diving (3 affiliate members move the swimming total to 7)

Sad thing is, and I say this as a girls coach... Title IX was meant to help girls programs, to make them equal to boys. Was meant to add programs, but sadly, they turned the tables and just started eliminating boys programs. Whoever started Title IX did not want the latter to happen. I'd put $$$ on it.

Then they're not very smart and have no concept of a budget.

And for that reason, everyone here talking about losing boy's sports should have been in favor of cheerleading as a sport.

On this one I must beg to differ. Cheerleaders try out for and make the team, just like say, a basketball team. But where as not all players who make the team get to play every game, all of the cheerleaders cheer all of the game. (Unless your really stupid and post pictures of yourself drinking on your facebook.)

I realize this, however I hate the terminology of pay-to-play when in fact that's not what it is

At the college level, nearly all programs have male cheerleaders. So it makes no difference.
