jjhuddle: "hello sj, I am calling on behalf of jjhuddle.com. we're calling to see if you were still interested in being a football correspondent for Toledo Libbey like you were last season..."

ME: "---umm yeah, Libbey closed."

jjhuddle: "what?"

ME: "Yeah. Their levy failed last spring."

jjhuddle: "So it's closed?"

ME: "Yeah. It was all over the news. It's closed."

jjhuddle: "ooh. I guess we'll look into it. Thanks."

I mean, I don't want to say they sound a bit minor league....but, well, it sorta does.

Are you surprised by this? I enjoyed their forums, but never had any respect or trust for any of the so called experts.

Two examples:
1. When the website just started to get going, JJ was on a radio show doing some analysis and was talking about Brady Quinn of Dublin Coffman, and said, "He's also a top recruit in basketball." Being from Columbus, he should have known that Brady Quinn was the star football player and Chris Quinn was the star basketball player.

2. Just this last year Frantz did his season end power poll, and he had DeSales ranked like 9th in his final poll behind several teams who were without a doubt inferior teams. If he would know anything about DeSales he would have known what type of schedule they play and how idiotic he looked. He actually was on the forum trying to defend himself and looked even more like an idiot.

They called you? They just sent me an email. I then PM'd Eric Frantz or whatever his name is to confirm I "got the spot" this year.

They had my number, too. Maybe his email address wasn't working?

Do you get the Toledo Blade? Watch ANY Toledo News? Get out of the house and talk to people :D:D:D

Also, 15 minutes from Libbey isnt really that close. That could be literally anywhere in NWO. I live in Perrysburg and can be at Libbey in about 10-15 minutes. However, Im still shocked you didnt know if you live in NWO and follow sports.

The City League is in its final year. Next season will be the remaining public schools, and Central, Whitmer, SJJ, etc are forming a league with new members Fremont Ross, Findlay and I forget the others.

I always liked JJ but never bought into the so-called experts on the site. I used it mainly to discuss HS football. I was over there just this morning and it remains a virtual ghost town compared to what it used to be. Maybe as the season gets closer more people will show up.

They called and left a message for me on my cell... about two days after I had been PM'ing them that I would not be reporting the scores this season. I didn't bother calling them back.

JJ Thanks for my advanced bonus check for doing the High School Football Scores.
You do get a free year membership for doing it this year, not sure if that includes the magazine though.

This is how I replyed to the request.

"So will this subscription be valid for the rest of my life like the last lifetime membership I bought and then had to pay another 12 dollars to keep using this website a few years later?"

Dont really follow high school sports all that much since graduating in 06. Dont read the Blade or watch the news. I did hear about the CL though.

You should have told them you would do it, and then made up some football scores for your report.

Think that was something they wanted to have their scoreboard updated on a quarter-by-quarter basis where you'd text scores after each quarter or something like that. Details might be off, as I really didn't pay attention to the deal, but I think I have the gist of it.

People agree to text in the scores each quarter. They dubbed the people who do this a "Quarterspondant", and I guess the act of doing it is to "Quarterspond".
